A few pics from the office this week. Lots of squirrel hunting by the eagles. They like sitting on Echo Alpha, probably means someone will have to wash the plane......Landen?

It's almost time for the bear cams at Brooks to come online. If you haven't been to Brooks Camp this is an excellent way to see the bears, that is until you go in person!

East wind was really kicking up the dust Sunday . I had to cancel a trip due to the horrible wind here and all the way over ro Hallo Bay. Safety is always our first priority.

Last year we had a mama moose with twins at the office. The twins are still here. They stopped by for a visit.

Echo Alpha went out to find bears yesterday. Today was the first official bear trip to Hallo Bay! ITS BEAR SEASON!!

I am across the lake but had to get a pic or 2. Echo Alpha got on the lake yesterday and Felix ( yellow) made his appearance today.
Boss needs to do a little more work on Felix before he is guest ready but he should be ready soon to take guests to see bears!!

We had a surprise in the neighborhood this morning. This mama is one of the "urban" moose who live along Beluga Lake. Last night she had twins! Please be cautious of your surroundings. Mama moose are just as, if not more, protective over their young than mama bears. She will likely hang around this area for a few days.

Still a little early for swimming.
Swimming with the bears is not allowed! But they they sure make it look like fun.
We hope to start bear tours June 1. Fingers crossed the weather cooperates.

If you follow explore.org and watch the bears of Brooks, you may have found the Guide to the bears of Brooks. This mama has a unique story. Somewhere in her travels she managed to get a snare around her neck. The rangers rarely intervene with nature but now and then they feel it's a must. Read Divot's story below about her snare and it's removal. She became a falls favorite after this story came out. 💚🐻

Being from Montana I follow Casey Anderson. He has been to Katmai numerous times and travels the world teaching us about wildlife.

Let's say hi to Bucky, who is also called "shower bear." He received his nickname as he fishes below the lip on the falls. As you can see by the picture he catches fish as they are jumping up and away from him. Unlike the bears that fish up on the lip.

Here is the King #480 we all know as Otis. He was very late arriving ar Brooks last year and as you can see showing his age. Very thin and slow moving. He was looking pretty good by the end of viewing season.
Otis was first identified as an adult in 2001. Many figure he is about 28 years old this year. He has very few teeth left so when you compare his thin pic with his end of season pic you can see how he has adapted to his situation and still thrives at his ripe old age. We sure hope he makes it back this spring. 🤎🤎🤎
