I remember seeing the guitar version when I was a young teen though. I will comment on the photos as usual. Thanks for reading. Dave Ross "The Guitar Doctor"

This Week's "On The Bench" series. This is a guitar I worked on before my month long vacation that I didn't have time to post before leaving. If you have a Fender guitar or bass with those cheesy plastic dot inlays in the fingerboard I can upgrade them for you, like I did to this USA Fender Strat. There are many different color stone and shell dots to choose from. I will comment on the photos as usual. Thanks for reading. Dave Ross "The Guitar Doctor"

This Week's "On The Bench" So they say things happen in threes and once again it has. These Three Gretsch guitars all came in last week at the same time for a Spa day. I found it very interesting how both the Gretsch company and the guitar owners have been doing some mods to the guitars to make them more user friendly. Luckily 0ne very old guitar came in as well as 2 newer models so I can explain the differences even better for you. I will comment on on the photos as usual. Thanks for reading. This Week's "On The Bench" I had 3 exotic Korina wood reissues come into the shop at the same time. They're part of the Kalifornia Karl collection. The Explorer was in need of some serious fret work. The forward and reverse "V's" came in for a Spa day which includes Setup, restring, cleaning and oiling fretboard, polishing and checking out the electronics. I will comment on the photos as usual. This Weeks "On the Bench" These 2 acrylic guitars came in for some repairs and setup from 2 different owners and during the same week. I mean what are the odds because I very rarely see acrylic guitars! The first is a Fender Stratocaster, part of the Kalifornia Karl collection. The second is a 1969 Ampeg Dan Armstrong belonging to Rob Morrissey. I will comment on the photos as usual. Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoy. Dave Ross "The Guitar Doctor"

This 1999 Fender USA Big Apple Stratocaster came in with a rounded out truss rod nut. The owner said he hadn't been able to adjust it in many years. A replacement Fender USA neck costs $900 these days. Well I have purchased many new tools that have recently become available, so I came up with a new process to fix the problem neck. One of the issues is that Fender glues in a wooden plug after they install the truss rod nut. The other issue is that the Truss rod nut is rounded out because it was very tight. I will comment on the photos as usual. Thanks for reading. Dave Ross " The Guitar Doctor"

This Weeks "On The Bench" This 1972 German made Hofner guitar came in for some major surgery this week. This Weeks "On The Bench" This 1980 Fender Vintage "52" Telecaster Reissue came into the shop for a setup. After straightening the neck the strings were buzzing from the grooves worn into the frets. I had already replaced them a few years back so using my digital caliper I measured how much fret was left in the deepest groove. I determined there was still enough fret thickness so I did a complete fret leveling, recurving and polishing to make the guitar play great again. Maple fingerboards are quite the project to polish, I'll explain in my comments on the photos. Thank you for reading. Dave Ross "The Guitar Doctor"

Announcing the end of an era, Ross Music has closed its doors for good. My brother Rodney who has been keeping it open for the last 7 years has reached 70 years of age and has decided to retire. Here are some photos I've saved over the last 50 years I would like to share with all of my long time friends and customers. I can't express my thanks enough for all of you that have helped to make Ross Music a staple in Rhode Island over the years. I will comment of the photos to the best of my recollection. Thank you!

This Weeks "On The Bench" Part of my job as a guitar luthier is to be a bit of a Scrimshaw artist. Most of the time when I replace frets on an instrument I have to make a new bone nut. This is usually because the combination of the new frets being a little higher and the wear and tear the old nut has had. I will comment on the photos as usual. Thanks for reading. This Weeks "On The Bench" I finished building the Red Devil Tele this week , which has been in the works for a quite a while. It's tuff to find time to build when I'm always working on so many others. The Red Devil Tele is a Tele that switches from Mini buckers with that ZZ top crunch to Tele single coil pickups when you pull up on the pull/push volume control. It also features the popular C shape neck. And brass compensated saddle bridge. I will comment on the photos as usual. Thank you for reading. Dave Ross "The Guitar Doctor"

This Weeks "On The Bench" In 1994 when I became the R.I. Gibson guitar service center I was asked to replace the fancy bridge on this 12 string guitar. I made this bridge from a block of rosewood so perfectly that when the Gibson service guys showed up to examine it they noticed something. One of them noticed that one of the horns on the bridge I made was slightly off, just like the original. To say the least they were very impressed with my work. I keep the other half of that rosewood block as a keepsake. Thanks for reading. Dave Ross "The Guitar Doctor"
