Here’s some food for thought about travel planning.

Everyone totally underestimates exactly how long it’ll take to plan a well-coordinated trip, and they forget what their time is actually worth.

Let’s run some math. The average trip takes about 20 hours to plan.

That includes researching, narrowing down choices, booking all of the details, and then filing away everything so you can find it for the actual trip.

Now let’s say your time is billed at $60/hour - that’s $1,200.

That’s a decent chunk of change.

I admit it, I didn’t always see the value of planning trips with a travel agent.

I used to spend hours and hours scouring the internet for information and tips to put together my trips and get caught in the trap of booking with third-party sites, not bothering to read the fine print or consider what I’d do if I needed to cancel or change things.

Now that I’m on the other side and do this for clients, I’m glad I went through those challenges first-hand because I now know exactly how my clients feel when they come to me for the first time feeling frustrated.

If you’re booking a hotel anytime soon, give this a read!

Believe it or not, you can actually get bumped from your hotel if it’s overbooked. Scary thought, right?

Here are 3 tips to avoid the overbooking bump:

The travel envy is real today!

Today I have clients who took a guided tour of the sights in Istanbul, and I won’t lie, I’m wishing I could be there right along with them.

I loved planning their trip for a few reasons:

How to make the most of Google Maps when you travel 🔎

➡️ Save Offline Maps: Before you go, download maps for your destination by tapping the location, choosing "Download," and voilà! Now you can navigate without internet.

➡️ Explore with Street View: I love this one! (and I've been known to spend hours virtually wandering destinations) Drop the little yellow peg man on the map and virtually stroll through the streets. It's like being there already. Do this around your hotel to get familiar with the area.

➡️ Discover Nearby Places: This is one of my favorites! Use the "Explore" feature to find attractions, restaurants, bars, parks, you name it, all in your vicinity. It's like having a local guide right in your pocket!

Hi, I'm Jessie and in addition to being a travel advisor I’m also a sucker for good live music.

I’ve been lucky enough to see Coldplay, Taylor Swift, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers this year here in Houston.

I also took my favorite music-related trip so far to the Shaky Knees festival where I got to see some of my favorites - The Killers, Father John Misty, Future Islands, The Flaming Lips, and Greta Van Fleet to name a few.

Summer is, without a doubt, the busiest travel season in Europe. So, if you’re headed there soon, remember to:

✅ Plan and book your sightseeing in advance — some sites have limited tickets daily. And even better, book a ticket that allows you to skip the line so you don’t spend hours waiting.

✅ Pack smart. Carry a packable poncho or umbrella for surprise torrential downpours. And take a light scarf as well, just in case restaurants are chilly or a religious site requires a little more coverage.

✅ Choose your day bag wisely. I try to avoid backpacks because they can be hard to monitor. I like to opt for a crossbody bag instead — these are much easier to prevent theft.

✅ Eat away from the crowds. I always like to venture 2-3 blocks away from the tourist sites when it’s time to eat. You’ll find more authentically local cuisine, and you’ll avoid the higher prices in touristy areas.
