The hoedown benefit is certainly in full swing @livingfreeanimals out near Mountain Center. Our Idyllwild Fire Department crew is busy grilling up some hotdogs and there’s plenty of music and fun 🤩 here! If you’re looking for a pet for adoption, this is a great organization to consider. #idyllwildcalifornia #idyllwildca #animalsanctuary #adoptapet #adoptionislove
Just stopped by @elbuencacao, my favorite chocolate chocolate store ❤️ in the WHOLE WIDE WORLD (and trust me, I’m a bit of a globe trotter)! There are two limited edition Father’s Day chocolate boxes left … so if you’ve got a dark chocolate lover in your family, you know where you’d best be headed before these sell out! 😋

It’s garage sale madness here on the hill … but what I love are finding all of our new little artisan shops that have opened. This one is a fabulous new treasure that the Donovan family has created ❤️
Don’t miss the WILDFLOWER SHOW today and tomorrow from 10-3 at the Idyllwild Nature Center!

I surely hope you’ll be joining us for the wildflower festival tomorrow at the Idyllwild Nature Center … it’s amazing how many dozens of native wildflowers have been collected for you to peruse and learn about. Join us Saturday and Sunday 9-3.

One of my favorite stops on the way up the hill is the Washburn fruit stand at the base of the mountain in Hemet on 74. they’ve got great local, honey, citrus, and soon they will have some glorious homegrown tomatoes, and other summer fruits and vegetables. This is well worth a stop if you love fresh local produce.
I just love visiting Gary’s Alpenglow Lilac garden. The smell sort of slaps you in the face the minute you open your car door … and Susi has a lovely collection of cards for sale this year from photographs that she’s taken from Gary’s vast selection of lilacs. Do you know a larger individual collector of lilacs???
They just stocked the lake with trout so fishing is quite popular right now at Lake Fulmore. Don’t forget your adventure (parking) pass if you decide to take a stop and stroll around. It’s my favorite place to stretch your legs, listen to the birds and get a little potty break during my drive from Long Beach! Plus, the picnic tables along the lakeshore provide a fabulous place to grab a serene snack.
I used to mistake the sound of our beloved ground squirrels with birds. But the sound is quite unique. These little guys are a great warning system. I always know when there’s coyotes or rattlesnake around. Did you know the chipmunks are the most vocal any mammal species (except us, of course). Why do you think Alvin was a chipmunk? 🐿️ 😂 i’ve yet to learn all their language, but believe me I’m desperately trying. What are your favorite sounds of the San Jacinto Mountains???

I love to stop and take in the views when driving up the Hill from either direction …

Wintress and I just LOVE ❤️ a visit to the Idyllwild Area Historical Society. I’m preparing for a lecture at the Idyllwild Nature Center on September 27 at 1 PM where the topic is our beloved late Ernie Maxwell. Bob does such a fabulous job organizing the archives. He had all the treasure trove of articles, plaques, information and original artwork dug up and ready for me to view! There are so many boxes and artwork to explore that I felt I hardly made a dent in the countless EMAX relics to be found here. 😍 trying to find the best material to present is really going to be a challenge.
Had to check some trail conditions at the INC to see if a hike was (still feasible) … it’s melting FAST but still some snow remaining on the trails.
It’s hard to imagine that spring is right around the corner! Locals know we need to wait (until at least after Memorial Day) before we’re (pretty) sure we’re in the clear for unexpected snowfall 🙄
I love the drive up and down the hill from the Banning Pass during the winter … the snow-capped mountains are spectacular … and when this spring’s wildflowers bloom, it’s really gonna be a sight to behold!
The buck that I saw with an injured leg a couple of weeks ago seems to have mended just fine … and several male family members seem to have joined. Seems both fawns last year were bucks! 😍
Found an injured buck near the PumpHouse. I didn’t have any Sweet-n-Sassy blend … and black oil sunflower seeds were of no interest 🙄 … so some corn might help him heal … let’s hope he mends before our resident puma gets a whiff ….
The Idyllwild Area Historical Society is always one of Wintress and I favorite stops in Idyllwild :-)
Here we are at the largest Christmas market in North America… Right here in the heartland!
