KING'S CONDO

Location: Keauhou Kona Surf and Racquet Club, Keauhou, Kona Coast, Big Island, Hawaii, USA (Walking distance to Keauhou Bay and Keauhou Shopping Center)

If you’re looking for the perfect spot in Kona for your Big Island vacation, you’ve found it with our owner-rented home in the Keauhou Kona Surf and Racquet Club. Our 3 bed – 3 bath condo is centrally located in Kona just 10 minutes from Kailua and 20 minutes from the Keahole International Airport (KOA) in the town of Keauhou. Together, this location, the Kona Surf and Racquet Club complex and our upgraded unit offers one of the best vacation experiences on the Big Island. KING’S CONDO
We’re very proud of our condo and hope your vacation experience will be fit for a King! The condo has wood floors throughout the living area, granite kitchen countertops and all new furniture. There are three California King beds to provide ample space for guests of any size and the second floor suite with its own bath, TV, office area and two fans gives a larger group plenty of space to spread out. High speed wireless internet, cable TV and Hawaiian music on the stereo are standard as well. There are eight large overhead fans (at least one in each room) to keep you cool on the warmest afternoons and the area is designed for good airflow with vaulted ceilings throughout. Of course, the lanai will provide the “coolest” area of all and has electric screens to block the indirect afternoon sun as well as an overhead fan. We’ve also equipped the condo with everything you need for a great time including a full, well equipped kitchen, refrigerator with an automatic ice maker, dishwasher, tennis gear, beach mats, beach chairs, boogie boards and fishing gear. We offer a stroller and portable floor mattresses for your smaller travelers too. If you’d like some help with what to do in the area, we’d be happy to provide a list of our favorite things to do on the Big Island. KEAUHOU KONA SURF AND RACQUET CLUB
Lying on the ocean side of Alii Drive, the KKSRC is a gated complex consisting of oceanfront, fairway and garden condominiums. Our unit has a beautiful garden view with a lot of privacy relative to many others in the area. All units have oceanfront access providing an opportunity to stroll along the coast, fish or watch beautiful sunsets just 150 steps from your the unit. The shoreline also provides good elevation to watch the whales on their annual visit to the islands during the winter months. Although much of the waterfront is lava, there is easy walking access to a sand beach with tide pools just north of the resort area and the reef just off shore provides good shore fishing opportunities as well. The resort is directly on the ocean and as all shoreline in Hawaii is public you will have the same access to the beach and shoreline as those renting “oceanfront” units so you’ll feel free to walk anywhere on the grounds or the adjacent properties to the north where an archeological project is taking place. At the center of the resort complex are three lighted tennis courts, a large pool and a covered pavilion while 3 common grilling areas are provided around the grounds. The tennis courts are guest-managed on a first come first served basis and basic tennis equipment is available in the unit. We’ve rarely seen all three courts in use at the same time and night tennis is both cooler (temperature) and cooler (more fun). Adjacent to the tennis courts is a large L-shaped pool with one leg of the L built for small children and the other for swimming. Showers and restrooms are available poolside. For golfers, the complex is perfectly situated between the ocean and the Kona Country Club, famous for 36 holes of championship golf winding between the ocean and nearby mountains. Staying at the Kona Surf and Racquet Club qualifies you for a discount on greens fees; check with the pro shop for details. KEAUHOU AREA
Keauhou rests peacefully at the southern end of Alii Drive. In Hawaiian, Alii means King or Chief, and for centuries this area was home to native Hawaiian kings seeking peace, beauty and respite. Alii Drive is the focus for activity in Kailua, just 5 miles north, but the action gets more relaxed as you work your way to the south end. Less than a mile away is King Kamehameha III Ave, a road that links Alii Drive to the mountain highway, allowing you quick access to your best routes either south or north along the Kona coast. Within two miles of the KKSRC, you can find an amazing number of things to do. In addition to golf, off-site to the north, you can snorkel, swim, take a surfing lesson, kayak or just lay on the beach at the famous Kahalu’u Beach Park. It is known as one of the best and most protected snorkeling areas on the island and it’s less than a mile from KKSRC. Continuing north along Alii, there are a number of beach parks, each with its own unique features. Going south, peaceful Keauhou Bay has a wonderful swimming and picnic area in addition to the local canoe club headquarters. There are only a few fishing charters that work out of this bay and we can help you make a contact with them if you’re interested in going after the big ones. Beyond the bay is a sacred Hawaiian area that is barren except for a foot trail that you can walk. You’ll see hand-built rock walls dating back more than 100 years and the occasional offering…right alongside a rock climber or cliff diver. Finally, within walking distance, the Keauhou Shopping Center provides a great place to pick up your groceries, locally caught fish, sunscreen, beer and the flip-flops you left at home. There is also a movie theatre and a number of excellent restaurants. There is even a farmers market on Sunday with live music and many local products for sale. Vacation Rental Features

For all of you volcano watchers, this is yesterday's HVO (Hawaii Volcano Observatory) update on the sea cliff. Today's update has a video of a portion of it collapsing, also attached below. It's a short clip and bone-chilling near the end.

Volcanic Activity Summary: Sea Cliff at Kamokuna Ocean Entry Highly Unstable

Kīlauea Volcano's episode 61g lava flow is still active and entering the ocean at Kamokuna on the volcano's south coast. Recent observations of the ocean entry indicate growing instability of the adjacent sea cliff. Potential collapse of the cliff poses an extreme danger to anyone in the closed area on land, as well as to boats near the ocean entry.

On January 25, HVO geologists noted an extensive crack running parallel to the sea cliff about 5 - 10 m (16 - 33 ft) behind the stream of lava at the Kamokuna ocean entry. Ground inspection of this crack by HVO geologists on January 28 showed 30 cm (about 1 foot) of separation across the crack. Four days later, on February 1, this crack had widened to about 70 cm (2.5 feet). The seaward block bounded by this crack was visibly moving up to 1 cm (about 1/2 inch), possibly in response to explosions below the ocean entry as hot lava mixed with cool ocean water. In addition, ground shaking could be felt up to several hundred meters (yards) away.

These observations show that this portion of the sea cliff is highly unstable and could collapse into the ocean with no warning.

Volcano Ocean entry fire hose - Feb 2, 2017

Sorting through the video from yesterday, we found one with some good dialog behind it. We were way too close to the sea cliff and were wondering what would happen if we went over the edge.
