Access to safe and is crucial, but a new study emphasizes the need for a more comprehensive approach. Beyond water quality, mental health, violence, discrimination, and other challenges must be considered. Current evaluations undersell the impacts of water projects and undervalue them in policy decisions. It's time to recognize the broader effects and attract more financing for transformative interventions.

"Capitalism can, on occasion, wreak havoc on the world, but if we bring the power of the private sector as a change agent to the world, we can make the planet more sustainable. To do that, we have to encourage the creation and protection of value.”

"There is a consensus that there is no planet B. It is our collective responsibility to create a culture of responsible water use and ensure a sustainable tomorrow for ourselves and future generations."

This , we're reminded that greater is needed to preserve our planet for future generations.

The fact that we live on the Blue Planet can create the impression of an abundance of water sources. 70% of the Earth’s surface is indeed covered with water, but of that, a mere 1% forms accessible freshwater sources that supply water for drinking, irrigation, and other purposes.

The United Nations 2023 Water Conference was a momentous occasion, after a 46-year hiatus, to unite the world for water. The conference highlighted the need to ensure water and sanitation for all by 2030, and saw voluntary commitments to address water-related challenges, including infrastructure investments and water management policies.
But there are still many challenges. The current water crisis is no longer just about access, and infrastructure spending does not necessarily lead to sustained access to water and sanitation.
Despite these challenges, the conference was a huge step toward achieving SDG6.
