We spent half of our stay on the big island here and the other half on the beach in Waikoloa. This was a great quiet retreat for our family of 5, including 3 adult children. The 3 spread out up in the loft and used the bed and futons provided. This was a great location to access all of the park trails. The kitchen was big enough for us to prepare breakfast and pack lunch and then hit the trails for the day. The laundry was a big help since we all were limited to one bag each and had been on the road for 10 days. A few recommendations: Thai Thai restaraunt in volcano was great! We left Volcano on 1/2/2018 and the lava flow is not flowing to the water line, but we were still able to hike to it and view it from Kalapana. This was one of the highlights of the trip. Drive to kalapana, rent a bike from Jeff (http://bikerentalspahoa.com/), pack some food and water, wear appropriate clothing -do not wear sandals - you want to start out around 3 or 4pm, hike in to the flow sit, chill, eat and wait for sunset. Spectacular!
