A Statement from Hawaii Farm Project

Hawaii Farm Project owns and operates Maui Chocolate Tour in Lahaina, Maui. While we don’t own or operate the cacao farm or chocolate factory ourselves, for several years we have partnered with Maui Kui’a Estate Chocolate to operate cacao farm tours and chocolate tastings at their factory.

Due to the recent and tragic events related to the Lahaina wildfires our chocolate tours have been unable to operate. While it may be possible to recommence Maui Chocolate Tour operations soon, the Hawaii Farm Project team has made the decision to continue to keep our factory and farm chocolate tour operations on pause. We do not feel it is appropriate to host tourists in such close proximity to the burn zone at this time.

While we miss our visitors greatly, our priority continues to be the safety and well-being of our employees and our community. In addition to other losses, Hawaii Farm Project has several team members who lost their homes in the fire. We are in full agreement that it is too soon for the community to bear the logistical and emotional burden that will come with hosting visitors near this sensitive site.

We intend to resume chocolate tours in early 2024 after the community has had more time to heal and rebuild from this disaster, and Hawaii Farm Project will respectfully seek input and guidance from our affected employees and community members as we make that decision.

We continue to send our thoughts and deepest sympathies to those affected by the wildfire and commend the tireless efforts of the community members working towards recovery. Until we reopen, we will continue to support our community through donations, fundraising, volunteering and helping in any way we can.

**7,000+ lbs. mixed fresh produce delivered yesterday!** The Maui Gold team is now working in partnership with the generous people at Aloun Farms & Fresh Aloha Direct to bring in fresh produce, to be stored at and distributed from our Maui Gold Pineapple farm in Hali’imaile where we have space and electricity to house cooler containers. We’ll share more about this partnership later, and for now want to highlight some of the recipients of our first shipment. Mercy Chefs and Citizen Church Maui have been gathering supplies, and cooking and providing literally thousands of meals daily. In this delivery to Chef Dustin and Chef Gary we were able to provide:

(12) 40 lb. cases of Okinawan sweet potatoes
(50) 6 ct. cases of honeydew melons
(1) 600 lb. bin of kabocha squash
(20) 50 lb. sacks of sweet onions
(300) mini Thai watermelons
(10) 25 lb. cases of Maui Gold pineapple

The amazing people cooking meals at received:
(4) 50 lb. bags of red onions
(4) 50 lb. bags of sweet onions
(1) 4 lb. case of parsley
(1) 20 lb. box of zucchinis
200 lbs. of kabocha squash
200 lbs. of mini Thai watermelon
(8) 40 lb. cases of Okinawan sweet
(10) 25 lb. cases of Maui Gold pineapple
