One of the most beautiful and classic hotels in London.

I was told that Madonna had a favorite quiet spot in their Library Bar. Maybe you can figure out which image shows this.

on the was an oasis I did not expect. Even though the camp (if you could call that) sat on the river’s edge, it was like you were dropped on to a paradise island. So many place to flop and just hang. The staff was incredibly sweet and fun. Loved being here. Such a different experience from the other camps I stayed at. Think a place you could come as a writer and tap away on your keyboard poolside.

Before going out on our afternoon game drive, I asked Frank, who manages Zarafa, to show me how to work the fireplace. I wanted to have a fire when I took a bath and dined in my tent. Look what I came back to… does right 🔥

I first came to this camp in July 2021, soon after Botswana was allowing travelers into their country. I spent the last year and half dreaming about returning. has my heart here. When I showed up, the staff greeted me by saying “welcome home” and that is exactly how I felt.

These are photos of the main area where you dine, meet other travelers, and take in the serene view of the Okavango Delta Spillway.

Elephants were in camp to greet us when we arrived at camp

I had been looking forward to experiencing this camp. It is more rustic than the other GPC camps. Always felt it had a Bedouin vibe to it. You are more open to the environment, which I love.

My home for the next three nights Duba Explorers Camp. I was first here in July 2021 (when we could travel again) and stayed in the same tent. There is something truly wonderful about going back to a place that spoke to your heart like this one.
The GP explorers camps are meant to give you a feel for what it must have been like in the early days of exploration on this continent — the days of Burton and Spekes, Stanley and Livingstone. In times of these greats no one was traveling light. They brought all their creature comforts with them. So, when you go to one of these camps, expect a bit of luxury while you watch elephants and hippos just off your veranda. The baboons like using the tent tops as a soft landing spot from the trees above. Think trampoline 😂

and I drove this to get to that >> one of the most remote and idyllic areas on the Lapalala Reserve. The bumpier it is, the more I like it. 😳

This bit of wilderness heaven is nestled in the Waterberg Mountains, 2nd oldest in the world, after the Himalayas.

I stayed about a year ago this time. I have been dreaming about returning ever since. Set on a 100 foot cliff above Palala River, their Noka Camp is the perfect way to either start or end your safari. The villas are so stunning and comfortable that many guests opt to simply hang out at camp. That was certainly my intention when I planned a recent four night visit.

I also love their commitment to sustaining through their breeding and reintroduction programs. Soon there will be a conservation project.

The lodge is in the Lapalala Private Reserve, which is part of the Limpopo area, a 3-hour drive from Johannesburg or 1-hour private charter flight.

Good to know: the lodge is in a malaria free wilderness area.

in Johannesburg is truly an urban oasis. The inspired English manor was once owned by the Oppenheimer diamond family. Even though it is a luxury hotel, there is a fanciful touch and intimacy that made me feel right at home. The staff was warm and welcoming, making it a perfect place to drop your bags, get over jet lag, and then head out on safari. What I noticed and loved is that it was frequented by locals versus being primarily for internationals.

So we reached the Cathedral of St. James, celebrated, and had a well-earned night of rest. Then, we went to the end of the world for the most serene sunset — 0km at Finisterre.

In Galician, Finisterra means the end of the earth. While the Camino is a Christian pilgrimage, the area we visited was first a place pagans would frequent, then known as Costa da Morte — the Coast of Death because it was so dangerous to navigate. Many came to Finisterre. Why? They believe here, each evening, the sun and the worlds of the living and the dead came together.
When the became a significant Christian pilgrimage, pilgrims continued to follow this pagan tradition, walking another 88km from Santiago de Compostela to the Atlanta Ocean. We took a bus 😳

I have been here three times before. The waters always white capped and the winds cold. This evening was the opposite. It was not the Coast of Death. It was one of rebirth, starting anew. That how you feel after walking the Camino de Santiago.

After more than 100km of walking the >> we arrived at the square in front of the of the Cathedral de Compostela, where the remains of the Apostle St. James are believed to have been brought by two of his disciples from Jaffe, Israel to here. First by a stone boat, then walking once they reached Padron, Spain.
Walking the is always an uplifting and enlightening experience. It is now the fourth time leading a group. Each time is different and equally meaningful.

Day 9. Pontecesures to Faramello, 8 miles

Part of our today was a 2-hour journey on the Ulla River, following the way St. James’ remains were brought by his disciples in a stone boat; Apostles Theodore and Athanasius -- St. James was brought from Jaffe.

In a sweet rural town called O Farmello is this idyllic guest home, run by Manuel and Dolores. It’s called, Casa de Marcelo. Here they make everything, including their wine. What a joy it was after walking all day to flop in a hammock, sip a little, and listen to the birds.

I loved everything about the oasis along “the way.” The hospitality. The vibe. The aesthetic. I could have easily have spent a few days in this slice of Camino Heaven.

How Our Sojourn Began

Sojourn Explorers was born out of a genuine love for travel and deep desire to share the experience with others. My name is Maria Baltazzi, and I have been on all seven continents twice. Once as a television producer. Then, again as a marathon walker, raising money for charity. It was on my fifth continent, the second time around, that I started to envision this company. Along the way, I also began studying the art and science of happiness and mindfulness, candidly, as a way to deal with the stress of television production.

Today, I have a Ph.D. in conscious-centered living as well as an Emmy for producing television, and combine my knowledge and experience to curate and guide bespoke journeys designed to be transformational experiences. Why? Because I want to help executives and creative professionals be the best version of themselves so that they can be more productive, more impactful in their world. No matter who you are, you can always use a reset, a recharge, a refocus, and I want to help you do this. How? By making your travel be more than just ticking another destination off your list. I want to make it meaningful to you by guiding you on an inner journey while you are experiencing an outer journey, using a combination of scientifically-proven as well as intuitive methods.

With Sojourn Explorers, each travel experience is custom-made just for you or your group. You choose when to travel and with whom. My team only works with the best in-country hotels, lodges, restaurants, transportation, and local guides. Your happiness is our happiness.

Sojourn Explorers is a brand company under The Sojourn Experience -- an organization dedicated to creating inner and outer journeys for a greater good. The sister brand is Picture Happiness: Take a Shot [FB/IG @picturehappinesstakeashot.]
