Historic Homes of Madison, Indiana

This home was built in the 1850s and served as a carriage house to the larger home directly behind it. According to historic maps, they were attached at one time. In the 1850s both properties were owned by the Hendricks family. The Italianate detail, including the brackets under the eave, mimics that of the other home. More than likely, the Italianate details are a later addition. The original style was probably Federal or Greek revival.

Thank you for your kindness and the gifts you left for us. I can't imagine any owner has more hospitality than you and Walt. We've stayed in quite a few cottages over the years, all over the US and one in Tahiti. Yours is right up there with the best of them. It's just so charming inside and out with a superb location in the town. This is a letter from guest who stayed last week from Kansas.
