Thank you for your service to the park.

Thank you for your service to the park.

Congratulations to this year's Barry Hance Memorial Award winner, Martijn Ouborg!

The Barry Hance Memorial Award is Yosemite's highest recognition, named in honor of a long-time employee of Yosemite National Park who died in an avalanche while plowing Tioga Road in 1995. Recipients are employees who exemplify his qualities, including teamwork, a positive attitude, concern for the public and fellow employees, public service, and a deep love for Yosemite.

Martijn is a database manager and wilderness ranger who shares his time working in the Divisions of Administration and Visitor and Resource Protection. He builds and manages numerous databases, analyzes data, and creates maps to support wilderness and fire management. With his deep knowledge of the park and analytical mind, he's constantly seeking and implementing ways to make processes more efficient. Meanwhile, he has hiked all but a few miles of the trails in the park and trains crews on use of cross-cut saws to remove trees blocking trails.

Lots of ways to get out there. And the air quality isn't bad in Mammoth!
