If your passport expires in 2016 renew your passport soon.

The US Passport Office is urging individuals with passports expiring in 2016 to renew now. The New York Times reports that the Passport Office expects average renewal time to increase by two weeks. The extended processing time is due to a flood of renewals ten years after a 2006 surge in applications, individuals obtaining passports in advance of the 2018 enforcement of the Real ID Act, and foreign governments more stringently enforcing that passports have at least six months validity. The US Passport office is warning that renewals in 2016 will likely average six weeks.
