Sorry for any cross posting but I wanted to put up my flyer for the group wine cruise for next year. There is some nice savings with the current promotion which will run through the end of this month. This promotion has already been extended once so I don't think it will continue. Please PM me if interested or want further details.

Why do we travel? There are numerous answers and I’m not considering business travel here. Personally, I’m looking for history and a culturally immersive experience to help me understand our world better. I’m a firm believer that local cuisines play a deep roll in culture. The travel industry is constantly monitoring trends, but I’m not sure how accurate these are. I also don’t think folks travel for singular reasons. I’m all about a Caribbean cruise just to chill. Just the simple getaway.
I’d be curious to hear thoughts on this from others. What’s your trend for travel?

So, just over a year out, but I want to share, once again, that I will be es**rting this cruise at the end of August next year! I'm really about this itinerary as it hits a region of France that I have yet to travel, and does a deep dive into wine regions I am less familiar with. I am hoping the time of year will provide the opportunity to experience the beginning of harvest season as well!I have limited space available, and no specific cabin is held until deposited on.

“Who wouldn’t travel, if they could? It’s unthinkable to me. Who wouldn’t want to enjoy different, new sensations, especially when the world is filled with so much great stuff? I like new things. I like to feel good. I like learning about stuff. It makes me happy. I like being wrong about stuff.”

Those ground crews are awesome!!

From now on, it'll never be said that airport ground crews and engineers lack a sense of humor. We dug up a few actual (or at least claimed to be) logged maintenance complaints by QANTAS pilots and the corrective action recorded by mechanics.

Problem: Test flight OK, except autoland very rough.
Solution: Autoland not installed on this aircraft.

Problem: Dead bugs on windshield.
Solution: Live bugs on backorder.

Problem: Something loose in cockpit.
Solution: Something tightened in cockpit.

Problem: Evidence of leak on right main landing gear.
Solution: Evidence removed.

Problem: Friction locks cause throttle levers to stick.
Solution: That's what they're there for!

Problem: DME volume unbelievably loud.
Solution: DME volume set to more believable level.

Problem: Aircraft handles funny.
Solution: Aircraft warned to straighten up, fly right, and be serious.

Problem: Radar hums.
Solution: Reprogrammed radar with words.

Problem: IFF inoperative.
Solution: IFF always inoperative in OFF mode.

Problem: Suspected crack in windscreen.
Solution: Suspect you're right.

Problem: Left inside main tire almost needs replacement.
Solution: Almost replaced left inside main tire.

Problem: Autopilot in altitude-hold mode produces a 200-fpm descent.
Solution: Cannot reproduce problem on ground.

Problem: Number 3 engine missing.
Solution: Engine found on right wing after brief search.

By the way, according to the report, Qantas is the only major airline that has never had an accident. Really inspires alot of confidence doesn't it?
🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂

SENGLEA SUITES HOTEL- POST #3
Breakfast is offered every morning for a nominal charge. Fresh breads and pastries, meats and cheeses ( the Stilton was fabulous!), fresh fruit, yogurt (plain and flavored) we’re always available. Lara des and Loen are happy to make fresh eggs to order.
Lunch and dinner is readily available down by the water all along Senglea, Bormla, and Birgu. The way down to the water from the hotel is on ancient stone stairs and along winding narrow streets and alleys depending how you go. Of course, you also have to walk back up, but it is a pleasant walk and a good way to work off a heavy meal. We tried numerous restaurants on the waterfront and never had a bad meal. You will find dining out to be VERY affordable in Malta. The quality of the food was always excellent and exceedingly fresh!

SENGLEA SUITES HOTEL- post #2
As with most every building in Malta, Senglea Suites is built with the ever prevalent limestone. Our rooms were spacious and beautifully decorated with the old Maltese architecture still present. Days of old mixed with new luxury. Our beds were very comfortable and the air conditioning is modern, easy to control, and sooo welcome after coming in from the heat of the Mediterranean sun! A mini fridge is stocked daily with large bottles of both still, and sparkling water. (Umm...I added some Cisk beer to the stock. But I digress). Our room had a large window that looked out over some rooftops and the Vittoriosa Yacht Marina, which lies between the three cities of Senglea, Bormla, and Birgu.. Some of the decor is from local artisans. The bathrooms were very modern, very well lit, and have a large zero entry shower. Water pressure was fabulous and never any problems with hot water. My daughter’s room was also spectacular! Located on the first floor (second floor to us in the U.S.) it came with a cozy little sitting area and small inner balcony. Her bathroom was equally well appointed and also came with the only soaking tub in the hotel ( thank you again Eric).

It has been a week since returning stateside from Malta. We loved staying at the Senglea Suites boutique hotel! I wanted to write about our stay, but I will do this in a few posts so not to make one long one. Owners Eric Tallin and Michael Salone have put an enormous amount of work into this wonderful beautiful accommodation. The 600 year old building, hidden in a quiet narrow street, in the heart of old Senglea takes you back to”old “ Malta while adding a touch of luxury to your stay. The six guest rooms are beautifully decorated while still maintaining the traditional Maltese style in the architecture.

This evening we walked over to The walled city of Birgu which is where Fort St. Elmo is. This is where the various Auberges of the Knights of St. John are. These are the separate countries the knights were from. The knights had a common cause to fight the Muslims, but there were times that there own countries were possibly at war with each other. The separation to keep keep animosity at bay. The city is a labyrinth of narrow “streets” that are the trademark of medieval Malta. Absolutely some of the most beautiful we have seen.

Today we have a private driver for the day. This morning we started by visiting Mosta Dome, one of the largest domes in Europe. Gorgeous oaintings are by a Maltese artist who would only paint for Malta churches. In 1942, while 300 people sought safety of the church during a German air raid. A bomb struck the dome. The bomb came through, slid across the dome and struck the base of the dome above the head of Jesus’ head in a painting then fell to the floor and slid towards the center of the dome. When the dust cleared, the bomb had not detonated, and despite falling rubble, no one was injured. Fearing a timed bomb, the crowd fled. The bomb never went off. It was removed by the bomb disposal unit at the time. A replica of the bomb is kept in the church with pictures of where it hit. It is called a “miracle” for obvious reasons. An air raid shelter below the church grounds is part of the tour with a look at how conditions were.

Right down the street from our hotel is a little garden atop some of the fortress walls of Fort St. Michael which is now part of Senglea. It offers a classic view off Grand Harbor and the surrounding cities.

So, when in Malta, or anywhere in the Mediterranean, it’s time for a seafood binge. Picking out whole fish and seafood on display is a great way and I am always confident of the freshness. Tonight it started with whole king prawns followed by Sea Bream for me, baked simply with lemon and a little fresh olive oil. My son had grilled John Dory. My daughter tucked into some Lobster pasta. All dishes were incredible! Dessert was sticky toffee pudding and traditional Maltese Imqast, which is a pastry filled with dates. A wonderful Sicilian white wine that was recommended was perfect. I was, however, denied coffee by my children…

Forecasted cloudy skies was a lie!! Started walking around the Three Cities (Senglea, Bormla, and Birgu) and the cloudy, muggy, tolerable temps turned into a sunny, hot, and very muggy day. We are all the way around the other side of the bay so will make our way back to the hotel for sunglasses, a change of clothing , and SUNSCREEN!😳

My apologies for those who this is redundant to, but had to post to my business page.
I am very happy to have another travel article posted to a local magazine. I never grow tired of talking about destinations that I have been so lucky to see, and trielt love to hear about others travel experiences!
Where was your last “big” trip? Any new ones planned? I head back to Malta in June, and am starting to plan group trips into 2024 already. Christmas Markets anyone?

After listening to morning speakers, it was back to the ships for lunch and ship inspections. Wolfgang Puck was so funny and told great stories about his life’s journey with business. The host had a hard time keeping him on track. He dropped a couple f-bombs which had everyone laughing hysterically!

So the next big adventure is now only 2 weeks away! We are so excited for our first trip to Hungary and Eastern Europe! The first 4 days will be for the river cruise expo and I will be posting with news of the incredible ships I will inspect and what information I get from the different lines. Those of you who know me know I am a foodie and thrive on trying new cuisines, street foods etc. One of our speakers is well know chef, Wolfgang Puck! I am going to try and get video to share of ships and Budapest. If I can, I will also try to do a Facebook Live for questions about river cruising and our ports of call sailing up the Danube to Germany. Stay tuned!

For my dear Valentine (aka wife), I turned to my fave cuisine, Mediterranean. The health benefits are undisputed and the variances are incredible. Tonight I made Cod in a saffron broth with potatoes and Chorizo. The broth was sublime and worthy of crusty bread to soak it up. I served it with some steamed peas and a lovely Zolo Chardonnay ( un-oaked). I did a homemade Creme Brûlée from scratch. Heading back to the Med to Malta (again) in June and can’t wait for the incredible foods from there again!
Happy Valentines to all!
