HOT NEW HOTELS NOW OPEN IN MIAMI:( courtesy of Kara Franker for Miamiandthe beaches)
Miami has a wealth of great hotel options. From intimate boutique hotels to luxurious resorts on the beach — Miami has something for everyone. And if you’d like to stay at one of the hottest new hotels, take a closer look at these properties that have recently opened for business.
THOMPSON MIAMI BEACH & (coming very soon ) THE HALL HOTEL
Showcasing a vibrant mix of bohemian-beach chic decor and 1950s glamour, the Thompson Miami Beach is housed inside a fully restored Art Deco tower. Featuring mid-century architecture, the entrance to the hotel leads to a spacious lobby where there’s a stunning crystal chandelier.
Each of the 380 rooms have 1950s-inspired beds, retro bathrooms crafted with nautical accents, and vanity spaces with throwback terrazzo tops.
The beachfront property teamed up with Miami native and James Beard Award-winning chef Michelle Bernstein to introduce her restaurant Seagrape, featuring fresh produce from local farmers, a rich raw bar and creative small plates. And don’t forget to try the handcrafted cocktails at 1930s House and Crown Room.
THE RITZ-CARLTON BAL HARBOUR
There’s a new Ritz-Carlton to add to the already impressive hotel collection in Miami, including properties in South Beach, Coconut Grove and Key Biscayne.
Overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and a stunning white sand beach, the new Ritz is 18 stories of pure elegance and sophistication in Miami’s Bal Harbour neighborhood. Featuring 124 lavish rooms and suites, modern bathrooms have stand-alone egg-shaped tubs, many of which have floor-to-ceiling water views.
A centerpiece of the resort is the al fresco restaurant and 10,000 square-foot waterfront spa, complete with 10 private treatment rooms, a serene waterfront terrace and a reflecting room for pre-and post-treatment relaxation.
MIAMI BEACH EDITION
Ian Schrager’s Miami Beach EDITION hotel represents a careful renovation of the historic Seville Hotel, built in 1955, which was for many years a global playground for the rich and famous.
One of the few hotel lobbies in Miami Beach to offer a view of the ocean, the hotel exudes a sense of informal glamour. Featuring intimate lounge areas and a beach house feel, the lobby design blurs the lines between work and play.
The laid back, but elegant ambiance extends to the hotel’s 294 rooms and suites — featuring warm wood finishes, comfortable furnishings and beach-meets-chic decor.
Other standout features include a full-service restaurant and patisserie called The Market, created by Michelin star chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten. There’s also a full-floor entertainment hub featuring a basement nightclub, bowling alley and ice-skating rink.
SHELBORNE WYNDHAM GRAND SOUTH BEACH
Following an extensive, multi-million dollar renovation Shelborne Wyndham Grand South Beach is open for business.
The Art Deco property, designed by architect Igor Polevitsky and later updated by Morris Lapidus, first opened in 1940 and was known for decades as one of the most sophisticated and popular resort destinations in South Beach.
Owners Flag Luxury and the Galbut family recently completed an extensive renovation to restore and celebrate the property’s heritage, while also incorporating modern touches throughout the 200 vintage car inspired rooms.
The hotel has four on-site restaurants and bars, including Morimoto South Beach, internationally acclaimed Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto’s flagship eatery in Miami.
Additional dining and bar experiences include The Drawing Room, The Bistro and casual, beachfront dining alongside fire pits and Ping-Pong tables at Oasis Grill.
VILLA BAGATELLE
A boutique hotel designed by the same owners who opened Bagatelle in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District, Villa Bagatelle is undergoing an impressive transformation. While it is currently open for business, the facelift will happen in strategic phases.
The renovation of the hotel’s lobby and guest rooms is designed to evoke a sense of welcoming elegance. The courtyard will become Bagatelle Gardens, a tropical oasis where you can enjoy a unique third wave coffee experience, a light lunch, dinner or al fresco drinks.
Other renovations include transforming the current rooftop deck into a complete Bagatelle St. Tropez experience. The pool deck will include daytime dining, a full bar, grill and the inimitable beach club feel.
METROPOLITAN BY COMO, MIAMI BEACH
Overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, Metropolitan by COMO combines a vintage 1930s Art Deco luxury with a sleek and modern vibe.
Housed in a historic building that’s protected by the city’s preservation board, the hotel features a bright and airy lobby with wide columns and playful interior design.
The hotel’s 74 rooms feature whimsical tones of pastel pink and sea-foam green, cool marble and shining chrome accents.
The Traymore is where Miami nightlife and dining scene comes to life, featuring locally sourced dishes and handcrafted cocktails. And the bar’s dedicated Gin Club is stocked with over 30 artisanal gins.
