International Women's Day
In honor of #InternationalWomensDay today, we celebrate all of our female crew and team members around the world including Captain Serena Melani, the first female captain to launch a brand-new ocean cruise ship.
We were truly inspired by the words of Captain Serena Melani at the christening celebration of #SevenSeasSplendor. “Being named Master of a vessel of this caliber would be an honor for any officer but being the first woman in the cruise industry to be appointed as Master of a new ship at launch is very significant for me and for the industry. To all the female officers out there, my achievements should serve as proof that you can accomplish anything by putting in effort, having perseverance, passion and putting in your heart,” she said.
Captain Melani also quoted the great American poet, Emily Dickinson, saying, “'We never know how high we are till we are called to rise; and then, if we are true to plan, our statures touch the skies.'”

GIVING BACK TO THE LOCAL COMMUNITY IN #HAWAII
For 2 weeks in February, the crew of #PrideofAmerica conducted a clothing and food drive to support women and children in a local shelter on the island of #Maui. They collected a total of 720lbs of clothing and 100lbs of food in two weeks.
The Deputy Director of the shelter sent this message back to the ship's crew:
"So truly amazed at the generosity of everyone that donated and by your crew that came out to meet with me. Currently we have 13 women and 25 children staying at our shelter. We are the only emergency domestic violence shelter on Maui. All the clothing and food were so needed right now, particularly because we have so many families in crisis. The women were so blown away by the clothing that came in, most of them still had tags on them. Some women flee with just the clothing on their backs. I am so grateful that I was able to work with you. Give all of your wonderful crew my sincerest aloha".

MAKING THE HOLIDAYS BRIGHT!
On December 7th, the crew of #NorwegianDawn collaborated with the Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA) to deliver gifts to local children in the port city of #Roatan, #Honduras. Children enjoyed the opportunity to meet Santa and his elves, and each child was given a special toy of their own :)
Our crew tell us this is one of their favorite events of the year!
