Fishing Report for May 31, 2024

In the Delaware Bay, bluefish and black drum were around last week, but the action was sporadic. Drum were caught at the Coral Beds. Big bluefish were caught in the lower Bay, but the action was much less frequent than the previous two weeks.

Flounder were caught in the Broadkill and lower Bay. White perch and catfish were caught from shore from Augustine down to Woodland Beach and in the tidal tribs.

The Indian River Inlet still had some big blues and a few big striped bass, but you had to put in your time.

The surf was also still producing some big blues. The Inshore Ocean yielded big seabass and flounder for boats going 30 to 40 miles offshore.

Freshwater saw good largemouth bass fishing on many ponds, while big catfish were the target on the Nanticoke.

Change of plans? Free your day, cancel your spot, let others fish away 🌊🎣 As we welcome the surf fishing '24 season, here are some etiquette & rule refreshers to ensure you're reeling in good times – seamlessly. Here’s what to keep in mind:

📅 Plan Ahead: Reservations open weekly for upcoming weekends, first-come, first-served. Make sure to cancel any reservations you can't use as a courtesy to other anglers.

🎣 Active Fishing Only: Vehicles on beaches must be used by those actively surf fishing, which means staying within 50 feet of your equipment, tending, casting, and recasting.

🚫 Protected Areas & Respect the Dunes: Only use designated crossings to protect dunes and nesting birds.

📋 Permits and Reservations: Ensure you have a valid surf fishing vehicle permit and reservation. Driving without them results in a $107 fine, increasing for multiple offenses.

🗑️ Carry-In, Carry-Out: Dispose of all trash properly, including nylon fishing line.

💻 To view, cancel, or print tickets, navigate to your account by clicking ‘My Account’ on the top ribbon. Cancel by 4 p.m. on the day of your reservation.

🚨 Driving on the beach impacts vegetation and wildlife, causing erosion. Following guidelines protects our environment and ensures responsible recreation.
