Halloween Around the World

Americans mark autumn with two major holidays: Thanksgiving in late November, and Halloween on Oct. 31. The latter is a personal favorite: Ever since I watched It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown! as a child, Halloween has been one of my anchor points for the fall season. Halloween as we know it, with the trick-or-treating and funny costumes, is for all intents and purposes a strictly Western practice. Though it has in recent years spread to South America, the Far East, and Eastern Europe, some of these places have their own traditions which resemble our own Halloween.

This! Not to scare anyone into not traveling, because you could be involved in the same accident in your own neighborhood.

Such a heartbreaking story. However this is exactly why I always advise people to get a passport, and travel insurance, even though it’s not required for every cruise. While a passport is not an inexpensive investment especially if you are traveling with a family and need to get multiple, it’s worth it for the peace of mind.

If you are using a travel professional to plan your trip, remember they are professionals, follow their advice. If you plan your own trips, travel wisely and don’t always look for your answers on social media. Time and again I see nonprofessionals telling first time cruisers “you don’t need a passport, it’s a waste of money”. I bet this couple and their families feel very differently about that right now.
