Great Horned Owls live in the Napa Sonoma Marshes alongside Red Tailed Hawks in at least three places where I can find them on a regular basis.

I do my best not to disturb them and once spotted we sit back at a distance and use binoculars and in this case an SLR camera with a zoom lens.

The owls sit motionless and blend in with their surroundings which is in stark contrast to the Red Tailed Hawks that take off from their perch and circle overhead squawking at us.

A great capture on tonight’s wetlands sunset tour. This large Great Horned Owl was facing directly into the setting sun allowing my SLR camera to receive maximum light for a fast shutter speed and a crisp picture. One of my best bird shots to date.
