This is a very interesting article about Latino's uncovering their African Ancestry and how societal pressures over generations has fostered anti-Black sentiment across Latin American and the Caribbean. It was interesting to see the work being done at Vanderbilt University (my alma mater) to preserve genealogical records kept by the Catholic Church that provides family names of enslaved/free Africans.

Digitized archives and DNA testing prove what these Latinos suspected: Family histories that focused on white, Spanish ancestry include African roots and the legacy of slavery.

Woolworth's on Fifth is a site on the Civil Rights Trail in Nashville TN. Sit-ins staged at the Woolworth's by students attending Fisk University were pivotal to the Civil Rights Movement.
