Here is another shot of the Moroccan plaster technique "Tadelakt" showing how it really creates a mood. This time it's featured in a UK based publication X2 Global Hotel Design.

One of the best parts of visiting Marrakech is seeing the city by night and its wonderful lighting. Guests at Riad Meriem often ask about our Moroccan lanterns including those surrounding the oriental plunge pool featured in House & Garden's Hotels By Design Issue. We custom designed the lighting at Riad Meriem together with the royal family's lamp maker who works out of a small shop in the Jewish quarter of the Medina.

A lot of people ask about the wall finishes of Riad Meriem which is a Moroccan hand applied finish called Tadelakt. Similar to Venetian plaster, the application takes about a month to finish depending on drying time. The colors are custom mixed and after hand waxing create an almost marble like sheen.

The section on Riad Meriem in the Travel + Leisure book of The World's Greatest Hotels, Resorts + Spas shows a very nice example of the finished product in one of the property's hallways.

The wall hangings featured in this Elle Decor article on Riad Meriem are vintage ceremonial wraps from Sumatra, Indonesia. They look a lot like Rothko paintings and give the veranda a very modern feel which I think compliments the more sumptuous bougainvillea hanging from from the courtyard walls.

Given all the enquires we’ve received about the design of Riad Meriem since its opening as well as other projects we have been working on, here is our first tidbit.

The textile hanging behind the couch on the veranda featured by Town & Country is of vintage Kurdish origin. What I found so amazing about the piece is how modern it looks, even though it was woven in another era. The Malachite center features swirls of patterns reminiscent of the paintings of Cy Twombly.
