is a non-for-profit organization that provides pillowcases for children to keep who are in the hospital or are going through same-day surgery. The organization is made up of six wild and crazy ladies, all of whom love volunteering their time to hand make each pillowcase given. Started in 2011, we meet twice each month to cut, sew, wash, iron, and lovingly package all of the cases. Today, we give p
illowcases to Deaconess and St. Mary’s Pediatric Units, the Same Day Surgery at St. Mary’s, and the Surgicare Units on both Professional Boulevard and Cross Pointe Boulevard. We have received many stories from doctors, nurses, techs, and families about how the pillowcases have helped make the child’s stay more relaxed and comfortable as well as providing distraction during anything uncomfortable. Parents are also provided comfort in knowing their child is able to relax during their experience. Each child talks about his or her pillowcase to everyone who comes in their room, as it is something to focus on outside of what they are going through, a special gift made just for them. Each pillowcase is made with 100% cotton novelty fabric and is the child’s to keep forever. They have proven to make a difference in the unfortunate circumstances of these children and continue to do so for more and more of them with each ongoing year of Pillow Pals, Inc. In our 1st year (2011) we gave away 930 pillowcases, our 2012 given total was 1400, and since January 1st, 2013 we have already given away 1120 pillowcases. looks forward to continuing to provide pillowcases and happiness to hospitalized children for as long as they are needed. However, we can only keep this organization going by the donations we receive from all of you, the caring public.
