Another beautiful aurora for our aurora dog sledders and ice fishermen/women on 22/23 March.

Our temps are up, the snow is beginning to melt, and unfortunately our winter season will quickly come to an end soon.

Thanks Vickie for posting another beautiful pic of your 4 legged friends and the aurora.

Another nice aurora tour tonight

We have had a very mild winter this season so far. That all changes on 21 January. We will be closed for dog sledding and snowmobile trips from 21 to 24 January for the expected extreme cold. We most likely will extend the closure if the forecast is correct for the rest of this week.

We will remain open for ice fishing in our heated deluxe fishing cabins.

We finally have our deluxe ice fishing cabins on the lake. Ice Fishing has been great since we started on 3 November.
But the 1st day in the cabins was excellent with 108 fish brought through the ice for 6 guests in 4 hours. Really this is phenomenal fishing! Some really nice Rainbows, Char, and King Salmon were caught--smiles all around

We practice sustainable fishing methods. Every guest can keep one fish, that we clean, season and cook fresh, then the rest are returned to water unharmed.

We need more snow for snowmobile trips and more ice for ice fishing.

Smokin' Ace Sled Dog Kennels should be extremely proud of this award. This award speaks volumes of the caliber of mushers on our team at Rod's.

2023 Sportsmanship award added to the wall! Very cool coming from my fellow mushers. Thank you, it’s an honor.
While the details of the story aren’t mine to share, here are the basics. It was very exciting! A team ahead of me decided to buck off their musher so they could have the fastest run time to the next checkpoint with a little less weight behind them. Little did they know without a driver equals a sled snagging up on debris pretty quick. I was the second musher to arrive but the first to be able to assist due to being in a spot (firm ground for a hook) able to safely secure off my team to leave them and go assist the teams ahead. Lots of sugar snow so the musher in front of me had to make a safety call to not leave their team and risk their dogs pulling ahead to join the party. All dogs and mushers were just fine! Dogs from the walkabout team were quite proud of themselves. Having a bit of hoot together actually. A few short minutes go by with 48 fresh barking dogs ready to charge full speed ahead. Couple quick passes to pull to the front with Nick and off we went. Never a dull moment living this life. What a race!
