So sad for one of the restaurants in our original tour neighborhood. 😢 This is not ok.

The good news is we are still in here prepping for dinner tonight. Yesterday, we had to cancel tomorrow’s Annual Farmers Market Dinner due to unforeseen circumstances and today, Eric came in at 6:30am when our alarm was set off to find this big smashed front window. It appears so far that not very much was taken, unlike last time. The window repair is unfortunately expensive.

All this to say, we could use your support this week…so if you’re able to come for dinner, order take out, purchase a gift certificate, join our monthly supper club or tell your friends about us, we extra appreciate it!

Tomorrow 7/25 we’ll have some off menu seasonal specials as part of a 4 course menu we are putting together.

Thank you so much ✨

To our customers, neighbors and friends,

It’s with sadness that we announce that we will be closing our Berkeley shop, Market Hall Foods on 4th. Our flagship Oakland shop and the businesses at Rockridge Market Hall remain open.

Our final day of business in Berkeley will be Sunday, May 26, 2024. Until then, we will continue to offer the great housemade food from our kitchen and bakery, along with the products you love. Our decision to close the store after 28 years was made after much deliberation. It has been a very difficult and emotional process, but we believe the closure is the best way to ensure the strength of the overall business.

Our store at 4th Street brought us many new friends and opportunities over these past decades, but like many other retailers and food establishments, we have been experiencing new challenges post-COVID.

4th Street holds so many great memories for us. From hosting book signings for renowned chefs and authors, tastings and festivals—we had so much fun. We have accomplished so much since opening in 1996 and we’re extremely proud of the legacy that Market Hall Foods and the Fourth Street community have created.

Our landlord Denny Abrams, his nephew Elliot Abrams and Luma Cortez at Fourth Street have been great to work with. Fourth Street is a Bay Area treasure, a unique shopping and dining destination that we feel extremely lucky to have been a part of for the last 28 years.

Most importantly, we would not have succeeded all these years without the pleasure of serving you, our customers. We want to thank you for shopping with us, relying on us for baked goods, sandwiches, confections and for a quick stop for pasta before going home to cook dinner. We hope to see you in Rockridge!

To read our full letter on why we have decided to close Market Hall Foods on 4th, please visit our website rockridgemarkethall.com or the link in our bio.

Well folks, we hate to spring this on you but Sláinte Oakland is going to shut its doors.

Summer was very slow and between decreasing business and increasing costs of supplies and labor, along with the rising crime in the area, we just can’t make the numbers work anymore. This means that we, like so many others, have made the heartbreaking decision to close on October 31st, 2023.

Until then, we will continue to serve up some delicious food and pour proper pints for you all. Our menu will shrink as our supplies wind down, but we will continue to offer fish and chips, shepherds pie, Brussel sprouts, chips and curry, and our famous Guinness cake all the way through to the end. Please help send us off with a bang and come by for the craic while it’s still here in Jack London Square. We hope you’ll continue to support our staff, our fantastic musicians, and the pub all October long. After all, we’ve got so many stories and so much whiskey to share with you!

We Irish have a phrase: Slán go foill. It means goodbye for now. It seems appropriate in this situation. Who knows? Maybe someone else out there who has always wanted an Irish pub can pick up the torch and make it go. We hope so. In the meantime, thank you for all your love, your kindness and donations during the pandemic, and your devoted support. Please continue to come on over to the pub this October to celebrate our seven years with us. We’re back at it tomorrow at 3pm and we’ll see you then.

We love you all.

Why have we not returned to in-person food tours? This is a BIG reason.

Just this past week, a woman was brutally grabbed and dragged along the street that we would take our guests along during our original food tour in Rockridge. Our owner Lauren was also held up at an ATM just blocks from where we hosted our Old Oakland Progressive Dinner. 65% of the restaurants we used to work with are gone.

We miss the bustling and beautiful city that was emerging pre-pandemic.

In a high-profile protest on California crime, Oakland businesses urge the city to do more to stop thefts and improve public safety.

Exciting news from our friends at Oaktown Spice Shop!

Exciting news from our friends at Oaktown Spice Shop!

We are excited to announce that Oaktown Spice Shop is coming this summer to San Francisco!

We decided to open a shop in San Francisco because we have so many customers who make the trek from SF to our shops in Oakland and Albany — or order online, and there are not many venues for small-batch spice blends like ours in the city.
Stay tuned for more details…but in the meantime, we are hiring spice associates! Link to job posting in profile or go to our website and click on “About Us” and “Join Our Team.”

Thank you to all of our wonderful customers and employees who are making this expansion possible! ❤️

The foodie buzz about Berkeley and Oakland has been with us for a while – but there’s a lot going on on the other side of the tunnel (or east of Castro Valley, if you prefer). In fact, there’s so much, it’s almost a competition. Which city has the best collection of restaurants? Which Restau...

Please say a prayer for Jen Angel of Angel Cakes. 🙏 Jen was one of the first vendors I worked with when we first started this crazy adventure here in the Bay Area. She immediately said yes when we reached out. This news is sad and infuriating. 💔

Angel Cakes founder Jen Angel is in "grave condition" after she was dragged 50 feet down an Oakland street during a mid-day robbery attempt.

We agree!!! (But are also thankful that Dry January is over. 🍷🥃🍺)
