After a combined 25 years of experience providing community support and education services, partners Darrell Strong Jr. and Curtis Calvin learned that the best way to support the community is to cut to the “chase” and provide independence to the youngest of our fellow people. However, understanding that people need help now the partners started NextMan Institute. The organization is a community in
vestment company purposed with providing support and education to individuals in achieving their dreams of independence through business and life. The first business founded by NextMan Institute is Entrepreneurship Plus, LLC. The managing partner of NextMan Institute and CEO of Entrepreneurship Plus, LLC, Curtis Calvin started working his first job at 10 years old washing dishes in the school cafeteria. After experiencing the independence gained by having earned his own money, Curtis kept working while attending school. Until age 14, he held a variety of sales positions including door-to-door gourmet candy and the local newspaper. Like most other teens, he later began working in fast food restaurants. While in the fast food business, Curtis held primarily customer facing positions capitalizing on his prior experience in sales. Simultaneously, he enrolled in his high school’s clerical skills program. Later, while attending a rural college with limited employment opportunity beyond the campus, Curtis took his clerical skills to market by starting his own business typing and writing papers for others. He also started a second personal styling services business, helping women on campus improve their appearance and self-esteem. After college Curtis went on to earn his Master of Business Administration while progressing through the workforce rising from an Outreach Assistant to classroom teacher to his current position as Vice President of Education and Outreach. Partnering with Curtis Calvin to create NextMan Institute and COO of Entrepreneurship Plus, LLC, Darrell Strong is a recent college graduate with a degree in broadcast journalism. After finding that earning an immediate livable wage would be difficult to nearly impossible, Darrell called on his social services background. Darrell spent most of his college and high school years working in the “blue collar” and fast food industry and voluntarily with social organizations that provided various forms of support to children and the community at large. His experience allowed him to land employment, rising from entry level to management within a year. Simultaneously, Darrell partnered with former classmates to form a private partnership company that provides television and film festival services. Together their passion for education, children and community service led to the founding of Entrepreneurship Plus, LLC. From their work with children, the partners gained an understanding that children’s only limitations are the adults around them and that if supported they can do “it” for themselves. Entrepreneurship Plus, LLC is the support that kids need!
