Dark Kings 8 day fishing trip

Intrepid 8 day trip report

The Dark Kings (DK’s) just got back from the Channel Islands Fishing Club/Eric's Tackle 8 day trip on the Intrepid. The DK's were represented by yours truly Isaac "Icee", Baja Dave, Bill "Spanky", Andy "V-man", Dan "ODH", Shawn "Boilermaker", Tommy T, and Jaime "BBD".

The Intrepid runs a top notch operation from the moment you board to the moment you get back to the dock. The food was amazing! Gourmet meals were prepared by Chef Christian and his assistant Michael. Food was so good I gained 12 pounds in 8 days! Captain Sam Moore held a family meeting to provide us our game plan, while we had lunch. We headed south to the Ridge to try and beat rough weather that was forecasted in the coming days.

During the two days of travel up to the ridge we enjoyed great food, snacks, piña coladas and partied in true DK style. We played a very long poker game, that also included other fellow passengers.
Once we arrived at the ridge we hit a school of yellowtail (YT) that was more than willing to play with us, devouring live bait, Yoyo and surface irons. We traveled further south, down the ridge that night and found another school of YT the next morning that also wanted to play. We pretty much hit limits there. Weather started getting snotty and we began the trek back north to the tuna grounds. We got there in time for the night bite and first school we found gave up 33 BFT that ranged from 20 - 100 #. Day time BFT was pretty tough but we scratched away at a few more fish.

On the last night the Captain was able to chase down a school of BFT tuna. With literally 10 minutes of fishing time left we got into some biters, these were some nicer grade BFT 90-100 #. Andy V-man got the very last BFT that was good enough for 3rd place in JP. The Intrepid also has a contest going on where biggest fish caught on an Avet wins an Avet reel. Our very own Dan, ODH went home with a brand new Avet HX.

Many thanks to Erik's Tackle for the swag. Everyone got a hat, jigs and Charman's hot sauce. Also many thanks to the crew of the Intrepid, top notch operation and for putting up with our DK shenanigans!
