"Sundown in Paradise"

Here's one I captured last year in early August while spending a weekend camping and hiking at Mount Rainier with my wife. This one features the last light of the sun spilling across the pink mountain heather, lupine, and other wildflowers in a meadow above Paradise. The skies had been completely clear on this evening, but some nice clouds developed above the mountain shortly before the sun went down, adding some color and texture to the sky.

While I've heard the wildflowers in the Paradise area are just getting started this year, I'm looking forward to heading out there before long to see how they're coming along. I'm hoping for a great wildflower season!

With a short growing season, subalpine wildflowers make the most of it as soon as they are free of snow. Roadsides in the park already have a beautiful variety of wildflowers blooming, while the actual subalpine meadows are just getting started. Many of the trails in the Sunrise area still have significant snow cover, but along the trail to Fremont Lookout look for alpine wildflowers like dwarf lupine, cliff paintbrush, and alpine yellow fleabane.

Paradise at Mt. Rainier is breathtakingly beautiful no matter what season you visit, but wildflower season is truly spectacular! Typically blooms peak mid-July through mid-August but many anticipate a slightly later peak bloom this year due to all the snow this past winter 🥀🌼🌷
