In honor of fishing - throw back to 1960s. This is Pine Cone guide Wes Brown and a long time guest Jack Heiner. Jack and Jean Heiner came back around 2011 to stay at the new Pine Cone. I loved hearing stories about Jeff, Sr, Jane and fishing. Please note that the lodge in the background doesn't have the front addition.

Previous guests had thrown rocks on thin ice to see if they could break the ice…. Today guests help chisel them out to bring them back to shore. (They used the rocks first to curl:)). Thanks for your help.

Jeff and I went for a moonlight walk around the resort. Too cloudy to see northern lights but this was the consolation!!!

This is part of the brochure that was published around 1960. A guest from that time helped me identify a few people.
Nancy (Neidel) Barkus tells me that she was the one playing shuffle board. Her brother is one of the 4 kids fishing and she thinks that Jeff and Carter Brand were the other two boys in that photo. The clippit is Dr. Earl Brand in a plaid shirt and Mrs. Brand is holding Jeff and Carter.
The other people in the brochure are Bob Shulz, holding the fish. George Giessing is in the small sail boat with his back to the camera. The Shulz children are Mary Catherine, shown at the large target, and Theresa is fishing at the shore line.

George Giessing was a dentist in Dr. Brands office building. The Brands, Giessing, Schulz and Neidel families were from the St. Louis area.

Rain drove our meeting inside again this year for the Big Sand Lake Association meeting. Happy for the rain and the lake residents who attended. We are lucky to live on Big Sand Lake.
