Nobody knows how it all started but, at some point in history, people started leaving crosses on a hill near the city of Šiauliai in Lithuania, gradually turning it into one of the country's most significant sites of Catholic pilgrimage. ⁣

Throughout Lithuania's long history, the so-called Hill of Crosses has been a place for locals to pray for peace. Even during the Soviet era, when all religious practices were banned, the Hill of Crosses never ceased to be a powerful symbol of faith and hope.⁣⁣
