What a fun way to remember my Dad on this Father’s Day! Beth Trott of Better Than New in Quoddy Village repaired my Dad’s 1931 Ford coupe seat that squirrels had destroyed with pairs of Dad’s patched and repatched jeans & lined jeans. I think there are like 6+ pairs of them. Beth repaired them all, too. How fun is this that we get to sit on Dad’s jeans while we drive his car. Now to get it started for the season! Thank you, Beth. Love & miss you, D❤️D. I bet you would hate this idea but all of us love it.

It is turtle time on Boyden Lake. Painted & snappers come ashore to lay eggs. Once in awhile we see a bruiser of a gal and this is one of those years. She is probably 30”++ long.
Turtles are an important part of our eco system. Always leave them be if possible. If you help them cross a road keep them pointed in the same direction otherwise you (human intervening) will disorient them. They’ve lasted way longer than we have. I give this girl my utmost respect! ❤️

My oh my what a Rhubarb Festival it was!
We counted over 252 adults, 29 kids, 35 volunteers, 25 vendors with an attendee total of approximately 341 participants.
We had three raffles: an afghan made by Jackie Perkins of Princeton, a rhubarb stalk original stained glass piece made by Bonnie Stewart of Robbinston & a gift basket filled with Rhubarb merch & donated items from vendors at the event for Jeff Stanhope’s family. The winners of the raffles were Monica A. who won the afghan, Elizabeth S. won the stained glass piece, and Wendy C. won the gift basket. Congratulations!
We had 21 different homemade rhubarb dishes including beef with a rhubarb sauce, a rhubarb cupcakes, rhubarb sponge pie, rhubarb cinnamon rolls, freeze dried rhubarb, and more.
The crowd favorites were…
rhubarb cheesecake which won 1st place for the third year in a row by Eola of Rockland, 2nd place to Wendy of Robbinston for her rhubarb feta chicken phyllo bites, 3rd place to Gwen J. Of Pembroke for her rhubarb squares, 4th place to Dani of Quoddy Villlage for her rhubarb chutney, 5th place to Treena of Pleasant Point for her rhubarb upside down cake, and 6th place to Lydia of Alexander for her rhubarb & fiddlehead quiche. Congratulations!
The rhubarb stalk eating competition was another fun success! I need helps with names of 1st place winner & 2nd place winners. 3rd place winner was the reigning champion, Charlie of Campobello.
Congratulations!
Here are a bunch of photos from the event.
More to come…
Huge thanks to everyone who helped to make this possible. It takes a whole village to put on a festival! I am most grateful for everyone’s help.
❤️

I’m so flippin’ proud of myself! I mowed the field by the 3 car garage this afternoon with one instructional 20 minute session with Terry.
Good teacher. One down, two to go! I haven’t been ready to tackle this learning curve until this year and it came right back to me very easily.
Dad never taught me how to drive this tractor even though I drove the International at the age of 10 and it was my first set of wheels. He was always so worried I would hurt myself on this one and said he didn’t trust himself to teach me this because it had a lot more moving parts. The old one 45 years ago had three gears only and like the Deere you had to stop in between to shift to next higher gear. I used to drive to visit my buddy Kim and cousins, Kelly & Stacy down the road in the summer. Golding Road was a dirt road in those days. We even drove it to the Polar Treat aka A-Frame for icecream on occasion I do believe. Shhh….

I think he would be proud. Nervous but proud. I am going to master this puppy this summer!

Today is the 1 year anniversary of my Dad’s memorial service. What a lovely celebration that was with family & friends. I visited our family cemetery tonight, shared a few tears, admired how nice the cemetery looks after someone seriously disrespected it, put a few jonquils from Cousin Ellen’s house on Mom, Dad, Gram K, & Grandpa K’s graves. They smell so good and my family all loved them. 🥹🥹🥹

There are lots of glorious signs of spring at Kendall Farm. A few of them are….
my stunning coral peony & Dads neon orange poppies coming into bloom. Peepers, smelts, fiddleheads, wild strawberry and Violet flowers. My giant garlic patch pushing up through the straw.

My very favorite is the wild pear blossom! As you drive down the roads you see a white blossom with a pink hue which is really comin through the color of the leaves and then you see bright white blossoms that are similar. The pinkish white are the edible wild pears and the bright white are the choke cherries. Both will produce edible fruits. The air will then become even sweeter with the many apple blossoms.
