If you haven't been to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in a few years, a couple of things have changed. While this National Park remains one of the only in the Nation without an and admission fee, it does now require a Parking Tag ($5 daily, $40 yearly) which is good for any designated parking area within the park. While there is some leeway, essentially if the driver is not behind the wheel of a running vehicle, it is considered parked. Parking Tags are assigned by license plate and not transferable between vehicles. If you purchase a single day or weekly Parking Tag, you must know the exact dates of your visit at the time of purchase. They must be present in a hard-copy (paper) format and no discounts or waivers are provided to passholders (veteran, senior, disability, etc). You can buy the Parking Tags onsite or on-line at:

The Grand National F-100 Show is the largest classic Ford pick-up truck event in the world. The event is open to classic Ford trucks, 1996 and older.

Truckers will exhibit their trucks both inside and outside the beautiful LeConte Center at Pigeon Forge. The most popular vendors for classic Ford Trucks will have the latest and greatest parts for sale. And the Ford Truck Swap Meet will be outside the convention center with cabs, doors, grills and just about everything a trucker could possibly want.

The finale to the Grand National F-100 Show will be an award ceremony to recognize the very finest classic Ford Trucks, which takes place on Saturday afternoon.

Each year in late May and early June fireflies that live in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park (GSMNP) provide an amazing show due to their mating pattern. This flash pattern is unique to this type of firefly (also referred to by southerners as lighting bugs). The flashing has a pattern that male and female fireflies of this species recognize and is part of their mating process. It is a fascinating spectacle to watch under the veil of darkness in the Great Smoky Mountains. The dates for the synchronous firefly 2021 event at Elkmont will be released within the next couple of weeks. During these dates the shuttles will run taking those with tickets to Elkmont campgrounds each evening for the firefly viewing event.
The GSMNP service has announced it will again use the online lottery system for tickets to the annual synchronous firefly event at Elkmont this summer. Dates to this year’s event will be announced soon. This annual event has become so popular the park service had to start using a lottery ticket process in 2021 for the public to access Elkmont. Last year the event was canceled due to COVID, but in the prior year, over 20,000 entered the lottery but only 1,800 people got tickets. There is a $1 entry fee but there is a $24.00 parking/ shuttle fee for the parking pass at Sugarland Visitor Center if you are selected.
