Keeping an eye on the tropics

The National Hurricane Center is monitoring Tropical Storm Chris which moved into Mexico overnight. The NHC continues to issue advisories for Hurricane Beryl. This system is expected impact the Windward Islands today as a major hurricane and track into the Caribbean Tuesday nearing the Gulf by the end of the week. There is another system moving into the Central Atlantic that could form a tropical depression by midweek as it tracks west. NHC has given that tropical wave a medium (40%) chance of development over the next 2 days.

Do you know how to survive a rip current?

This drone shot gives a great view and helps visualize why you need to swim PARALLEL to the beach until you are out of the current.

You won’t be able to fight through that - you need to go past it and then turn to shore.

Los Angeles County Fire Department, Lifeguard Division will be kept busy all summer with the rising temps and crowded beaches - help them keep you safe by swimming near open towers and never swimming alone.

Check in with the nearest lifeguard for ocean conditions and swim within your abilities.
