**Park Alert** Mustang Island is experiencing tides reaching the dunes and winds gusting to 35+mph. These conditions are expected to persist through the holiday weekend into early next week. With this in mind We have made the very difficult decision to close primitive beach camping through Tuesday May 28th, at which time we will re-evaluate conditions. Day use entry is expected to remain available, with the most favorable beach conditions being in the afternoon hours. Reservations for the water/electric sites will be honored. Strong currents and heavy surf are making water activities dangerous for most experienced swimmers, please exercise caution. Mustang Island State Park is a narrow beach and is affected more by high tides. Port Aransas and Padre Island may have more beachfront due to their beach management practices. If you are planning a visit this weekend expect long delays and traffic from visitors attempting to locate a more accessible area.
