I thought Iād share some of my work and passionā¦ music and animalsā¦especially the special connections that have been made. I titled it:
āThe Grace of the Untamedā
Lawrence Anthonyā¦ āThe Elephant Whispererā ā¦
His story in song.
I wrote the lyrics to this song after reading "The Elephant Whisperer" by Lawrence Anthony, the music is by JS Stanton, a friend of mine.
I was so touched by the story and Lawrence Anthony's dedication and connection to these sentient beings.
Fortune has given me my own wonderful interaction with these beautiful creatures on my many trips to Africa. I can say they react in the most lovely way when I sing to them...they show a wide-eyed curiosity and sweetness!
I feel the more we can illuminate this possible connection to the creatures of this earth, the more we can help protect them.
We (my husband, Louis van Tonder and I) have witnessed first hand ā¦certain trauma on elephant herds. The government In Zimbabwe at the time was sending in helicopters to disperse the herds and kidnapping baby elephants. They were then sent to zoos in China, many of them not making the hazards of the journey. A travestyā¦the elephant trumpeting in the opening is one who lost her baby that way. It racks the soul to see these traumatized creatures, their interactions with people and vehicles are so different in other areas of Africa where they are protected...at least protected to some degree.
I hope this song inspires you in the realm of possibilities in connection with all our creaturesā¦God bless all creatures...great and small. ~Terri New
Do read on for the back story for the lyrics of this song.
"Wild elephants gather inexplicably, mourn death of "Elephant Whisperer"
Author and legendary conservationist Lawrence Anthony, died on March 2, 1999. His family tells of a solemn procession on March 10 that defies human explanation. For 12 hours, two herds of wild South African elephants slowly made their way through the Zululand bush until they reached the house of late author Lawrence Anthony, the conservationist who saved their lives.
The formerly violent, rogue elephants, destined to be shot a few years ago as pests, were rescued and rehabilitated by Anthony, who had grown up in the bush and was known as the āElephant Whisperer.ā
For two days the herds loitered at Anthonyās rural compound on the vast Thula Thula game reserve in the South African KwaZulu ā to say good-bye to the man they loved. But how did they know he had died March 2,1999ā¦?
Known for his unique ability to calm traumatized elephants, Anthony had become a legend . He is the author of three books, Baghdad Ark, detailing his efforts to rescue the animals at Baghdad Zoo during the Iraqi war, The Last Rhinos, and his bestselling The Elephant Whisperer.
