While I was away this sweet little plant from next door worked its way through a gap in the fence and looped itself around the door latch. It necessarily moves every time you open the door, but it has managed to hold on this whole time. ❤️

2024 upgrades: this one's a bit of a gag, but over winter, we locals go a bit nutty and I became obsessed with the idea of getting landline service. What's mine is yours - free long distance, even! 🤣

2024 upgrades: new Level 2 50A 240V EV charger courtesy of JJ Electric! This is the fastest charge you can get at home, pushing ~12kW which translates to about 40 miles of range per hour.

Who's that sweet doggie in the window? It's who lives with me when I'm there. I take great pains to vacuum, lint roll, and mop before guests because he is a shedder - that's why he's hanging outside right now - but this is a dog's house too; definitely wanted to let you know in case you have allergies. Also a good time to remind you of the very unique staircase (ladder?) in the house that goes up to the bedroom, office, laundry, and half bath. It's steep, and unenclosed, so this also might not be the right rental for you if you're concerned about steep stairs. If you're normally pretty good with them, but have a few too many drinks at tea dance - don't worry, the couch pulls out for a safer choice :)

While certainly not the most glamorous photo I've posted here - this is an infrastructure update, and infrastructure is critical!
Two big upgrades happened this fall and winter at the cottage: (1) gutters; and (2) heat pump. The benefit of the gutters is obvious: no more sheets of rain on your head when you enter or exit on a stormy day. The benefits of the heat pump might be even more exciting.
Previously, in summer, there was only air conditioning upstairs, and downstairs could get a little steamy. No more: now both levels have AC! And in winter, while there was heat on both levels, the heat downstairs was baseboard (electric resistance) heat: slow, inefficient, and WILDLY expensive. Now, both levels have quick, efficient, environmentally friendly heat and AC at much less cost. And as a reminder, electricity in the cottage is 100% renewable energy.
Thanks to our friends at Cape Cod Insulation in South Yarmouth and Meads Mechanical Services in Brewster (shop local!) as well as & for helping make the cottage even more energy-efficient. 🌱☀️

The very first addition that we made: a California King bed with pillows (two plush, two firm), sheets, and comforter. After living in either DC or New York for 22 years in extremely cramped apartments that only fit a full or a queen bed, this was beyond a luxury for us. Especially who is indeed 6'5".
Set your perfect sleeping temperature with the thermostat, and curl up with a book, flip on the TV with soundbar, or just drift off to sleep. Best sleep we've ever had.

First things first: why is it the Cottage on Nickerson if the address is 12 Cottage?

Well, the Cottage on Cottage would've been cute, but a bit repetitive, and also wrong. We're on Nickerson Street! But the cottage sits on a parcel of land designated as 12 Cottage Street, and we're part of an association with two other neighbors who own the main house, dating to 1847, on the grounds. The downstairs level of the main house is Unit 1, the upstairs Unit 2, and we're Unit 3.

Our cottage began its life in 1900 as an outbuilding and later a garage, before being converted to a one-story cottage, and in 2010, the two-story cottage it is today.

Small cottages that started out as outbuildings are common in Provincetown, but ours is fairly unique in being far away from the main house, giving it a lot of privacy and making it feel like a separate home. Most cottages in town are smushed right up against their main houses, sometimes just shoulder-width apart, which can feel a bit claustrophobic (and can be really noisy in summer). We love our space and think you will too.

Closing day, November 9, 2021, and our first night in the cottage! Having a place in ptown was a long, longtime dream come true, and we're super excited to share it with you. During your stay, you might be chatting with Ben (inner in both photos) who's a lawyer by day, human by night, or Carson (outer in both photos) who has a much cooler job as a music producer. Desi isn't so great at chatting yet but he's working on it. We're excited to welcome you!

Whew. Ptown is beautiful in winter but last weekend's arctic blast was next level: Boston had the coldest morning since 1957 and it wasn't much warmer out here! The wind chill got down to -30°F. Happily, the cottage is just fine, and it'll be back up to 51°F tomorrow with sun. SUMMER'S COMING! #ptown
