As we transition from fall into winter, there’s really nothing quite like a snowfall at Refuge On The Rock. Snow floats down gently through the trees, blanketing the ground with white. It invites children outside to build snowmen and have snowball fights.

This season of change provides the perfect opportunity for curling up beside the fire with a good book, taking a warm soak in a relaxing hot tub, spending quality time for Thanksgiving with the ones we love, getting caught up in the magic of Christmas, the promise of a New Year to come, or planning a romantic stay for Valentine’s Day.

Kids love the “Eagles Nest” at Refuge! The 2 captains beds have slide out trundles so you can fit a small tribe up there! Comes equipped with lanterns for night time stories, trucks and legos!

There have been Sasquatch sightings at Refuge!!!

Meet Sasquatch. He’s our friendly Chipmunk buddy who likes to visit in the mornings and eat bird food. If you are lucky enough, you may also get a glimpse of his sister, Nessy.

Dakota Point is located on the eastern edge of Sheridan Lake. It has beautiful views of the lake to the west but also offers thrill-seekers a chance to test their mettle jumping from cliffs that range from 5 to 25 feet (maybe higher 😬).

Sheridan Lake is located on Highway 385, just north of Three Corners, Hill City and Keystone. It’ll take you about 20 minutes to drive there from Refuge On The Rock.

You can drive to the Dakota Point Picnic Ground by going east on Old Sheridan Lake Road once you’re on the northwest side of the lake on Highway 385. Or you can make an easy 15-minutes hike to get there, using the Flume Trail. The Flume Trail starts at the south boat ramp parking lot and hiking along the south side of the lake then crossing the dam.

You’ll need to purchase a USFS park pass to use boat ramp parking. A little secret: That pass will also get you into the areas at Pactola Lake and other picnic, parking and boat ramps managed by the U.S. Forest Service. Dakota Point -
