3-9-2021 Finally had the opportunity to photograph and explore this litte hidden Outer Banks ghost town on Portsmouth island. Its located just south of Ocracoke Island and part of the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. I spent a total of 17 hours on the island shooting from sunset to sunrise. This video ends just after sunset when the real adventure begins.

I knew that spending the night shooting alone on an abandoned island would have its moments of creepiness, but what I experienced was way more intense than I had originally expected. This made for a very long sleepless night of moving cameras, and working my way shooting all over this long ago abandoned town on a moonless night.

By morning Junior and I had probably walked the town 20 or 30 times, and could hardly stand up. The 17 hour shift of shooting timelapse proved to be too much. I had originally planned to spend two full nights here shooting but after our first night I didnt have anything left and physically couldnt hardly walk the following day so I was forced end the trip sooner than anticipated.

Portsmouth Island is maintained by the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Despite this being an abandoned town they have done an excellent job keeping up mainteniance and keeping the island restored and clean of trash. It looks like it was just recently abandoned which only adds the amazing mystique of the island. I made sure to try not to leave anything but my footprints behind. I could tell this island was well taken care of and deserverd a lot of respect. If you'd like to visit this island you can reach out to Portsmouth Island Taxi out of Ocracoke island.

If you visit this island in the warmer months than I would recomend purchasing a full body mosquito net, you will thank me for this recomendation after your trip.

Sunrise from Portsmouth island, NC. This island last inhabitants left in the 70’s and only a few houses and a church remain. I’ve been here for 15 hours shooting time lapse videos all over the island. It was a very long creepy night shooting alone in the old town. I could definitely feel the presence of the islands old inhabitants and I was happy to be able to shoot it such a magical place with almost zero light pollution. Huge thank you to Wade Austin with Portsmouth island taxi out of Ocracoke for taking me out to the island during the off season so I could complete this project. If you’d like to visit this incredible place reach out to them to come experience this magical little ghost town hidden away in the Outer Banks.

2-17-2020 A very rare opportunity of star photos at the Oregon Inlet Fishing Boats during a power outage. IT may appear that the lights are on but that was only a few flashing emergency lights. There was some kind of electrical explosion I saw while driving along hwy 12 on my way to shoot the Ocean Pursuit. When I realized the power was gonna be off I quickly turned around and headed to the marina to get some star photos. Typically its way too bright here to get any good stars in the photograph. But not on this night! No clue what happened but rangers were on the scen in minutes and I never heard any ambulances so I think it occured while they were working on the high winds while the temps plummetted this night.

1-1-2021 A foggy wet OBX Sunset, Downtown Manteo, Roanoke Island. We’re off to a very wet start on this New Year’s Day but the fog and puddles making for some really great photography!

Happy New Year!!
We had a visitor at our house this morning!! A pretty buck!

Also, funny story. You may know Mom is trying to sell the house. We have had daily showings. We cleaned an area rug yesterday, but it got wetter on the covered porch. After the guests left this morning, we put it inside upstairs over some deck furniture to dry. Later, a family was looking at the house from the driveway. I invited them in, totally forgetting the damp, stinky carpet propped upstairs. 😂 We left for a walk. (Everyone was wearing masks.) SOOO, I'm guessing they must think I'm a nut. Think that's a selling point?? 🙄

10-6-2020 Bioluminescent waves in the OBX!!! While we were doing the Milky Way Portraits we noticed the waves looked like they were "extra white" and glowing. When we finished with the Milky Way portraits I pointed the camera at the ocean and was surprised to see nothing but beautiful blue waves! On very rare occasions (Only seen this a few times the last few years) the Plankton that drifts in the ocean and glows blue when its reacted too will drift along the shores of the Outer Banks. Its quite an amazing thing to witness. I went out last night to try and capture more "blue waves" and was saddened to see it was all gone and there wasn't a blue wave to be found. Ill be releasing a timelapse video of the waves this evening.

9-24-2020 Found this little baby sea turtle all by himself trying to get to the ocean. It was the only one around and I stayed with it until it reached the ocean. I’ve just never witnessed something so incredible!! Good luck little buddy, I hope you reach old age and have many stories to teach the next generation.
