The EDGE

On Tuesday Team Chillino brought 130 students to the edge of the cliff.

Everyone had 5 min to commit to the lean or not. No coaching or mental support and verbal help... an exercise in silence!

DO IT OR DON'T your choice!

We did it again πŸ’ͺ🏼πŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺ🏾 Thanks to everyone who came out on Tuesday to support the global effort of the "Climb The Wall" fundraiser.

Together we climbed (again) hundreds of meters in an effort to show that we demand a cease fire and stop genocide in Palestine.

The campaign goal of raising $50,000 is long overshot which shows that there are many people who care and want peace. Please consider donating and show that you care by bringing awareness to the situation and talking to your free and family.

Always the highest stoke levels with BlindstokersClub at yesterday's outdoor Session at Mission Trails.

Everyone had a blast and took the challenge to not only climb but also hike up the streep approach trail at Mission Trails.

Thanks to and .luis for supporting our visually impaired and sighted climbers through everything by setting up climbs and guiding everyone on trail.

One for the books again! Team Program in Joshua Tree 🏜️ this was our second time kicking off their annual Joshua Tree backpacking program.

Archie Williams Highschool students have the opportunity to spend the ve nights under the night sky of Joshua Tree.

And there is pretty much no better way to get a feel for the place (Joshua Tree) by touching it's natural environment in a challenging way. Thanks to our highly skilled Chillino guides everything went as smooth as can be. We had 3 climb sites up to distribute our 30 climbers and lower the impacto each site.

Everyone also had the chance to do a rappel. The chillinoactivation levels were extremely high and everyone had a blast. Way to go Archie Williams πŸ’«

Amazing two days of practicing top rope anchoring skills in Joshua Tree. Our SESSIONS members Jack and Matt learned how to use static ropes to set up any top rope on pretty much any rock in the park.

Joshua Tree is known for it's own anchoring style because in many situations you do not have bolts available for anchors. Hence we have to use traditional/removable gear to create anchor points. And these are often far away from the edge requiring us to use long rope material such as static line.

Our motto was 'more is less' and so for two days we were slinging boulders, tying bowlines and equalizing anchor legs. After having them join us for many SESSIONS the skill level was high. Both students managed to set up multiple 'Joshua Tree' style top rope anchors. Congratulations πŸŽ‰

Team in Joshua Tree 🏜️ yesterday we had the amazing opportunity to hang out with the entire team of this amazing company.

Half of the team signed up for our climbing adventure. Team Chillino with & were expecting high levels of climbing stoke so we showed up early to the climb site and hung seven top ropes for our nine climbers.

In a short session of three hours ropes kept moving and everyone had a blast to experience what rock climbing in Joshua Tree is like. We had a lot of firsts from first time outdoor rock climbing to first time climbing Joshua Tree. Some climbers even completed all 7 climbs from 5.4 to 5.11... super psyched and super .

We ended our day with pizza and a great presentation from a national parks ranger about the park

Day 9 sums up a trip of a lifetime! We stayed in camp at Indian Cove and enjoyed a fun cragging day on Dos Equis wall.

Fatigue certainly crawled in on our last day but chillinoactivation was still at high levels and everyone managed to climb multiple routes on the long and steep climbs of the wall.

All in all we had a very relaxing day with clear blue skies and perfect sunny T-shirt weather. One could say a perfect end to a perfect trip.

We finished our day with a thorough debrief and everybody had the chance to reflect on what on what this trip means to them personally. The appreciation for each other in this group is remarkable!

We all left feeling like rockstars (literally) as Chillino guide team was asked to sign our students' crack climbing gloves πŸ€™πŸΌ

Hands down! One of our best programs with the best students we could ask for. Go Oysters! See you next year in Joshua Tree πŸœοΈπŸ§—πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ

Day 8 and we cannot be prouder of our students from . Today we put all the newly learned skills together in one drill.

πŸ’«πŸ’« The lead climber-follower process πŸ’«πŸ’«

Each student demonstrated everything we learned in the last 7 days including:

- picking a lead climb βœ…
- racking up for lead βœ…
- flaking the rope βœ…
- leading on traditional gear βœ…
- building top managed anchors with trad gear βœ…
- belaying the follower to the summit (GriGri or ATC guide) βœ…
- creating a backpack rope coil βœ…
- sorting gear while cleaning and following βœ…
- descending via backed up rappel (auto-block) βœ…
- descending via walk-off βœ…

There were a lot of moving parts and everyone was motivated to show their best way of going through the entire process. Team Chillino coached where needed and every student was able to crush the drill with almost no help!

We are so grateful for being able to teach the safest and most sustainable safety techniques that will stick with everyone for a lifetime. Cheers to a lifelong adventure on the rocks. Go oysters πŸ’«

Day 7. Today was a highlight as we had a chance to meet Kevin Powell to learn about Joshua Tree's climbing history.

His presentation was an excellent mix of storytelling and showcasing what climbing was like in the early 70's. In fashionable style even showed up in the clothes that he was wearing back then. We had a chance to look at the old equipment that Kevin used on his early climbs and he demonstrated what 'ground-up' ascending and placing bolts (hand drilling) on lead was like.

Besides being recognized as a first ascensiost, Kevin is also known for being an initiator for bolt replacements in the park. Him and his friends are responsible for the replacement of thousands of bolts making climbing significantly safer.

We ended our day with some great cragging around hidden valley campground and had the opportunity to relax and enjoy the park with beautiful sunshine.

Tomorrow we are excited to see the students putting all the skills learned together in one drill. Big day! Let's go oysters πŸ’«

Day 6 and everybody showed up with great motivation to learn and practice our last two skills on the curriculum

Lead climbing/belaying βœ…
Top Managed belays with (GriGri & ATC) βœ…

To this point students learned about every step to successfully complete the lead-follower process including descending via rappelling.

It is incredible to see how quickly everyone learns and how motivated the entire group is. Finger tips starting to get sore but our psyche is still growing and activation levels are reaching cosmic levels.

Everyone is stoked for our second cragging day tomorrow - sampling nothing but Joshua Tree's finest.

Snowy start on day three. Beautiful sunrise and snow covered desert floors. Today we brought our newly learned anchoring skills to the vertical and even covered top rope extensions.
Joshua Tree delivers and everyone continues to have elevated stoke levels. Chillinoactivation is showing vividly and is expected to peak soon.

It was an all season in one day kind of day again and with truly magic moments. Fom snow and freezing winds to sunny t-shirt conditions and tranquil moments... we had it all.

Do you take care of your hands?

The biggest misconception while using chalk is that you need to dry out your skin and build up callus. While it makes sense to dry your hands out, built up callus actually adds an increased chance of creating flappers or gobies. There are plenty of articles and proper skin care techniques that lead to the emphasis on quickly washing your hands, avoiding hot water, and using moisturizer. There are also plenty of moisturizers/salves on the market that work great! We like climbing salve for our skin repair!
