Operating Room Innovations, LLC was founded in January 2012 by two orthopedic surgeons and two operating room scrub technicians who have more than 70 years of combined operating room experience. The company’s primary focus is on developing products that improve operating room efficiency and enhance the safety of healthcare personnel and patients. Based on firsthand experience as well as feedback f
rom other medical professionals, the Operating Room Innovations team identifies operating room issues that can have a negative effect on patients, surgical teams and hospitals—and uses its collective expertise to develop solutions to them. In the area of efficiency, they understand that even shaving a few minutes off a procedure can be important, since operating room time is very expensive, from $60-$110 per minute. As for safety, anything that can be done to limit infections and workplace accidents is going to be a benefit for patients and operating room personnel. The company’s first product is an innovative surgical gown that overcomes two of the chief concerns associated with traditional surgical gowns: the need for two assistants to fully don the gown, and potential contamination due to having an open back. Its founders have many more ideas in the pipeline to enhance the operating room experience for medical professionals and those undergoing surgery.
