5 Reasons to Plan a Trip to the Philippines
If you’re the outgoing type, you’re probably already starved for travel right now. Even those who only take a holiday once every few years cannot deny how just about everyone in the world misses what the world has to offer — or at least what it offered pre-quarantine times.
When the doors of tourism are unlocked once again, consider traveling to the Philippines, one of the best tourist destinations around the world. In this Asian country known for its people’s hospitality, you’ll find the best prices for hotels and destinations. Here are some of the best reasons to book a Philippine holiday.
1. It’s Almost Always Summer
There are only two seasons in the Philippines: wet and dry. Summer in the Philippines is officially from March to May, but the dry season spans from November to May. During these months, you can travel around the country as if it’s perpetually summer.
A spattering of rain visits the country at any time but usually not hard or long enough to ruin your plans. Even during the rainy season, which is officially from June to October, most tourist destinations are open. The only exception is when typhoons hit Philippine shores.
You can find hotels connected or very close to shopping malls, particularly in Metro Manila, so even if your beachgoing plans fall through, you’ll still have plenty to enjoy in a country where almost every city has at least one large shopping complex.
2. The Food Is Great
Filipinos love to eat and every destination has its own culinary specialties. From Pampanga’s sisig to the City of Bacolod’s chicken inasal, to the abundant seafood you’ll find in every beach resort, there is a delicacy you’ll enjoy if you’re ever in this country of more than 7,000 islands.
All-original recipes are easy to find, so are Filipino versions of cuisines from around the world. If you’d rather have a taste of home, however, you can also visit the restaurants of Metro Manila where you can enjoy dishes from different cultures, from American to Middle Eastern, European to Oriental. When they say it’s “More Fun in the Philippines,” you should also remember, it’s tastier there too.
3. Filipinos Are Warm
Filipinos are known for great cooking, but they’re also popular for being kind, friendly, and warm. They will open their doors to tourists and share with them whatever they have as if they were family too. Filipinos are sweet people given to laughter and fun. Everyone in the Philippines loves a good joke and a song or two on karaoke.
It’s no surprise that these fun-loving people celebrate every holiday, no matter how obscure it is. Wherever you are in the Philippines, there is a date dedicated to the place’s patron saint, and that dedication is usually celebrated with a “fiesta”, when food, drink, dancing, parades, decorations, and of course, karaoke, are staples. During these feast days, households expect family and friends from other areas to visit, dine, and celebrate with them. Some holidays are more popular than others. For example, Baguio, the country’s summer capital known for its cool weather, celebrates the Panagbenga flower festival every February, and Cebu has the Sinulog festival in January.
4. Beaches, Beaches Everywhere
The Philippines is home to some of the best beaches around the world. Posh hotels, affordable accommodations, and everything in between mark the tourist destinations that have put this country on the map. The powdery white sand on the beaches of Boracay island, the island hopping paradise of Palawan, and the bustling nightlife of Subic Bay are just some of the world-class beach destinations you’ll fall in love with, in the Philippines.
5. Something for Everyone
Surfing, swimming, and all manner of water activities have made this Asian country a top destination on the list of some of the most respected travel authorities. But beaches are just the tip of the iceberg. The Philippines is also a great vacation spot if you’re thinking about shopping, as it offers some of the largest and most luxurious malls this side of retail paradise. Local cuisine is often surprisingly great yet you can get the best fare for just a few bucks. That’s one of the best characteristics of a Philippine vacation: it’s mostly cheap, but the experience is anything but.
