Getting 20 people to say YES to an island they never heard of, to say YES to three challenging hikes, say YES to wearing all white for a sunset 😂 - our lives colliding like this was no coincidence.

We couldn't imagine a more appropriate way to ring in 2022 than watching Madeira's record-breaking fireworks with the people who made it all possible - our alumni. We raise our Poncha-filled glasses and cheers to you and how you’ve helped grow this community of kickass humans.

Say hello to the beautiful Maragarida, our Local Lead in Madeira! Born and raised in Madeira, she once left to travel the world, but made her way back as nothing was sweeter than home. To have on our trip was like “having a cheat code to the city” (quote by ). She took us to her local pubs, showed us the best sunset spots, and we got to dine at her favorite restaurants. The Madeirans called us lucky to have 7 flawless days, but really we had Margarida!

She runs a store in Madeira called .madeira so if you find yourself on the island, drop by and say hi 👋🏼!

Madeira | The Last of 2021

We knew 2021 would be a difficult year to travel, but in reality, it was a lot harder than we thought. Covid never really went away, country regulations kept changing, and it led to a lot of disruption and cancelations.

And yet, we’re here today, in Madeira, on our 8th trip of the year! We’re so proud and thankful for our team, our local leads, guides, drivers, hosts, chefs, and friends who made these unforgettable dream trips possible. And most of all, we’re thankful for these amazing humans who have trusted us and traveled with us several times this year, and who we now have the privilege of calling our ‘family’. We love you guys.

Tulum wasn’t in our plan for 2021, but when we had to pull out of Cape Town because of the pandemic, we decided to give Tulum a shot and we’re so glad we did! It was an amazing week of building connection and giving thanks 🙏🏼

WHY IS MADEIRA A GREAT PLACE TO WORK REMOTELY
Madeira is going to become a digital nomad hotspot over the next few years. The island has attracted younger, longer staying, remote workers since the pandemic began, and here’s why these workers are flocking this Atlantic island:
1. Great Weather - Madeira has mild temperatures with plenty of sun year round, so when it gets cold in Central Europe in the winter, Madeira is a great spot to be
2. Robust Infrastructure - the internet is surprisingly fast! When we tested out Madeira for WiFi, we found strong networks everywhere. 50+ mbps speeds are common, and even some remote hikes had perfect cell phone reception. Your zoom calls won’t get affected.
3. Hiking - close your laptops after work and head to a sunset hike to end the day. Some of the best hiking we’ve done has been in Madeira. Sunrises and sunsets are such a great pre or post work detox.
4. Food - if you like seafood, you will love Madeira. There is no shortage of local inexpensive meals as well as Michelin starred fine dining restaurants. The scabbard fish with banana is a must-do. Pair it with some Madeiran wine and you’re all set.
5. Connected Flights - there are already direct flights from London, Berlin and mainland Portugal. New direct flights are being added from different destinations next year. In fact, the first direct flights from NYC started today!

Weekend hikes in Madeira!
Our workation crew in Madeira spent the day hiking at Ponta De São Lourenço, the very east side of the island. Nice to shut off our laptops and enjoy another day exploring the island!

The Tayrona National Park is a jewel of Colombian nature. This mini Jurassic Park contains a luscious jungle teeming with monkeys, birds and insects. Go past giant round boulders and you will arrive at the white-sand beaches and azure waters of the Caribbean.
After 7 days of enjoying the bustling city of Medellin, will head to Santa Marta to experience this picturesque beach town.

Hiking, swimming, and relaxing are our only tasks for the day ✅✅✅

One of our favorite experiences in Mexico City is to watch the sunrise
over the Teotihuacan pyramids on a Hot Air Balloon
Teotihuacan is an ancient mesoamerican city with blurry origins, containing features from different cultures, including the Mayan and Aztec
We start our day early in the morning to watch the sunrise on a hot air balloon. Then we hike the Pyramids of the Sun and Moon.
Get your blessings on top, visit the Temple of Quetzalcoatl (The Feathered Serpant), and learn about the
dangerous games played in the courtyard. This is a day you won’t want to skip 🙌🏼
