Passports With Purpose

Passports With Purpose Passports with Purpose is the travel bloggers fundraiser. Raising funds in 2015 to bring digital reading to 5 libraries in western Kenya w/ Worldreader.
(20)

In its first year, Passports with Purpose raised $7,400 for Heifer International. In 2009, Passports with Purpose blew past its initial goal (which was to raise $14,000 to build a school in Cambodia) raising nearly $30,000 to add improvements to the basic school. The school, built through our partnership with American Assistance for Cambodia is now complete. In 2010, with overwhelming support and

assistance from the travel blog community, we raised $64,128, over 25% more than our original goal of $50,000 and built an entire village in India. Construction is also complete. In 2011, through our partnerships with the participating bloggers, we raised $90,000 to build two libraries in Zambia through a partnership with Room to Read. In 2012 raised $112,000 to build 5 wells in Haiti through a partnership with Water.org. We raised $84,000 in 2013 to build two schools in Mali. In 2014 the fundraiser brought in $25,000 to help five families and their communities in Honduras learn to farm sustainably for five years.

Big announcement: We will not be holding a fundraiser in 2016. Details are in the post, but we want to send a huge thank you to everyone who has supported in the past.

Sustainable farms in Central America. Wells in Haiti. Schools in Mali and Cambodia. A village in India. Libraries in Zambia and e-books in Kenya.

Bloggers, you have been copied on any prize you hosted. Congratulations, everyone, and THANK YOU for helping us raise over $20,000 for Worldreader!

Look at what you did in ten days: Just $10 at a time, you came together from all over the world, and raised over $20,000 so that children in Kenya can have access to the huge and beautiful world brought to them by books.

From the very bottom our our hearts, thank you. You have helped us raise over $20,000 for Worldreader.

Welcome to Passports with Purpose. We are the annual travel bloggers’ fundraiser. Since 2008 more than 200 travel bloggers have helped do long-lasting good around the world by building schools, libraries and a village. We’ve also helped communities learn to farm sustainably.

We are starting our last 15 hours of fundraising with $17,600. We'd like to reach $20K by 11:59 pm on 11/18. You can donate and enter to win some amazing prizes, but more importantly, you can make a difference for kids in Kenya. Can you help? (P.S. Please pass it on!)

We believe that the best answer to ignorance and hatred is education and love – the former being what our fundraiser is about and the latter being what we’ve seen so much of from all of you over the past weeks. That is why we have decided for the moment that Passports with Purpose will continue as p…

It's an annual tradition for us to share the prizes you have the best odds of winning. Bid on these prizes before 11:59 pm on Wednesday 11/18 and help bring e-readers to Kenya.

The “Best Odds Post” has become something of a tradition in the Passports with Purpose fundraiser. Every year we know that some people wait to donate and bid until we’ve told them just what prizes they have the best chance of winning.

A message to our entire community: We believe that the best answer to ignorance and hatred is education and love - the former being what our fundraiser is about and the latter being what we've seen so much of from all of you over the past weeks. That is why we have decided for the moment that Passports with Purpose will continue as planned, ending on November 18, 2015.

Out of respect for what has happened, we will not be sharing on social media today. But as of now we intend that our efforts to raise money will continue Sunday through Wednesday evening. Our message is simple: Books are part of a valid response to what has happened. Books simultaneously make the world bigger and smaller. Books connect us and our minds and hearts.

We will answer guns and bombs with books for children.

For now, we will remember Paris, and we will cry. And then we'll roll up our sleeves and get back to work.

At the halfway mark, we've made $10K to bring digital reading to Kenya for Worldreader. A huge Thank You to everyone who...

It’s been pretty clear over the years how much the travel blogging community values literacy – we’ve raised over $200,000 to build libraries and schools in Asia and Africa.
