Did you know today, we celebrate National Rum Day!

Rum is a spirit that can be found in citrusy mixed drinks, and cool blended summer cocktails. It's the third most popular alcohol in America - beaten only by vodka and all whiskeys combined for first and second-rankings respectively. And with images of sandy beaches, brightly colored umbrellas, fruity drinks as well as warm weather conjured up out of it...it's no wonder people are so drawn to rum!

Rum is a product of the sugar cane plantations in the West Indies. How did it come to be? As with many grand discoveries, this one was accidental! When they extracted all that sweet syrup from their delicious crops, there would always remain some leftover funny-tasting byproduct called molasses. For years people thought nothing could be done about such an unpleasant substance – until someone hit on just what we needed: distilling and voila!, rum emerged as something quite useful indeed for sailors out at sea who had grown tired of drinking seawater mixed with wine or beer (the options before alcohol came along).

Meadow Lake Retreat

A beautiful, serene spot on Meadow Lake, part of the Guadalupe River chain. Enjoy over 100' of private waterfront w/ 2 story boat dock & boat lift to bring your own boat/jet ski. Plenty of kayaks, paddleboards, & floats (including a floating mat) to enjoy. A complete outdoor space w/ fire pit, outdoor shower, swing out big screen TV, covered open-air dining/prep area, laundry, & 1/2 bath. Two thoughtfully appointed & comfortable tiny homes to sleep up to 12 guests. *Must be 25 yrs+ to rent*

The space

This property has 2 tiny homes, perfect for 2 families or separate groups who want to be together but separate, if you know what we mean. The tiny homes are the same size, but different layouts. Both have a separate bedroom with locking door, and each has a full bathroom and kitchen. The loft house has a loft with 3 twin beds, great fun for kids. The narrow and steep stair ladder to the loft make it appropriate for kids age 4+ (smaller kids probably wouldn't be safe to come down unsupervised in the middle of the night to potty). Although there are technically beds to sleep 7 in this house, it’s only big enough to accommodate 6. The bunk house has a set of twin over twin bunks inset into the hallway (between kitchen and bedroom, across from bath). They are less private than the beds in the loft, but a smaller kiddo would be able to safely sleep on the bottom bunk.
