What a journey! Selma Wood Company has come a long way since idea conception. Thanks to some brilliant minds and generous people, we were able to pull this off and bring this idea into fruition. I would like to thank Judge Bob Armstrong for casting the vision and planting the initial seed of Abba and Sons, the parent company of Selma Wood Company. Briefly, Abba and Sons is a social entrepreneurship incubator that seeks to serve and benefit the people of Selma with the triple bottom line: spiritually, economically, and socially. Another brilliant mind came and actually birthed the idea while brainstorming with Judge Armstrong. Desmond Looney is my partner in this venture. He is a passionate, spirit-filled young man, with a strong desire to see Selma and her people flourish. He manages the Big River Car Wash, which he uses as a platform to empower kids to not only earn money but regain the keys that will unlock the path to newer possibilities while breaking free from the shackles of social ills and circumstances. Desmond has brought his crucial insight, energy, tools, and woodworking expertise which I am forever grateful for as we embark on this journey.
I would like thank Blue Jean Church for entrusting us with our first project. Completing this project gave us the much needed confidence and confirmation that even with limited tools and resources we could make this work. This project also would not be possible without the help and generosity of Mrs. Cherry Russell and her family who donated invaluable tools and Sam Gindlesberger, a Master of Divinity student at Asbury Theological Seminary in Kentucky. Sam has been around woodworking for a few years now and it was a pleasure having him as our intern, well, more like a teacher to me! Thanks, Sam, for all your hard work, dedication, wisdom, and expertise! What you brought to the table is priceless.
We do want to thank the Hardware stores like Summerlin’s Hardware, Fuller’s Hardware, Builder's Choice for meeting our hardware needs. Dallas Glass as well for providing the glass table tops for Blue Jean’s bar tables. Big thanks to William O'Neal at O'Neal's Woodworking and Robert Armstrong as well, for their advice and guidance. We appreciate y'all brothers! Last but not least, thank you people and city of Selma; we look forward to serving you and adding to the movement of making Selma great again! We are striving to be a business that is “For Selma, By Selma, In Selma!”
Thank you,
