Highlights from today's ceremony honoring the late Sheriff Buford Pusser.
August 21st, 2024 marks 50 years since the passing of Sheriff Buford Pusser. A special wreath ceremony will be held tomorrow, Wednesday, August 21st at the site of the accident that took the late Sheriff's life. Buford Pusser Historian Steve Sweat will lead the ceremony and invites the community to take part.
On August 21, 1974, Sheriff Buford Pusser died in a fiery crash four miles west of Adamsville when his Corvette left the road, hitting an embankment in Lawton. The crash site is marked with a monument, and Highway 64 has been named the Buford Pusser Highway in his honor.
