County seat
In 1890, the county seat of McNairy County was moved from Purdy to Selmer. Buford Pusser
Sheriff Buford Pusser served as the sheriff of McNairy County from 1964 to 1970, and since Selmer is the county seat, the location of the courthouse and the jail, this wa

s his base of operations. His story has been made famous in the Walking Tall movies starring Joe Don Baker and Bo Svenson. The movies were filmed in nearby Henderson. Newspaper
The oldest existing business in McNairy County is its newspaper, the Independent Appeal, which was founded in 1902. in Selmer. The McNairy County News began publication in 2009. The MCN is located at 252 Mulberry Avenue in Selmer. The paper has an online presence at mcnairycountynews.com and a page, as well as a weekly printed publication each Thursday. Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 9.8 square miles (25 km2).

Selmer Chiropractic Center - Dr. Shawn Pitts is excited to welcome Dr. Katie Chandler. Dr. Chandler is a native of Savannah, Tennessee. She completed her undergraduate work at Mississippi State University and earned her Doctor of Chiropractic credentials from Texas Chiropractic College in Houston. Dr. Chandler will be accepting new and established patients as early as next week. Help us welcome her to McNairy County!

If you know Jessica Brown Huff, you know the long list of accomplishments and contributions she has made to our community. Jessica is the Executive Director of the McNairy County, Tennessee Chamber of Commerce and McNairy County Tourism. She is the vice president of the Southwest Tennessee Tourism Association, Ramer Ruritan Club, Friends of UT Martin C**n Creek Science Center, Friends of Big Hill Pond State Park and is secretary of the West Tennessee Chamber of Commerce Executives. Jessica is a graduate of the UTM WestStar Leadership Class of 2020. She received the BSA, West TN Area Council, Shiloh District Award of Merit 2016. Jackson Area Business & Professional Women named her the winner of the 2024 Sterling Award, honoring the 20 most influential women in West Tennessee. Jessica has recently completed the Southeast Tourism Society Marketing College. She will graduate in September 2024.

We are so excited to have Jessica join us and are looking forward to the wealth of knowledge, compassion, and kindness she brings everywhere she goes. You do not want to miss this Flourish event!

All women are invited and encouraged to bring a friend! This event will take place on Saturday, July 20th at the Jack McConnico Library in Selmer, Tn from 10:45 - Noon. Refreshments will be served.
