US 441 (Newfound Gap Rd) remains closed, as a High Wind Warning is in effect until this afternoon. The mountain has already endured multiple wind gusts in excess of 85mph. Rain is also expected to arrive this morning and last all day.

Cherokee Orchard Rd is also now closed at the park boundary due to downed trees. The park and Mt. LeConte have taken a beating from the storm.

Guests with reservations tonight affected by the road closures should contact our office ASAP regarding options if you have not yet spoken with a reservationist.

Wake me up when September ends… 🫶 Fall is officially here! As we count down to one of our favorite months, I bet you are wondering what the big deal is? It’s not just about the leaves changing colors or the weather turning into perfect room temperatures and cool fire pit worthy nights. In a nutshell, it’s all of these things and more! These are our fall tops:

- Visiting Carver’s Apple Orchard and having their apple pie!
- Driving down Pittman Center Road and pulling over on the pull offs to enjoy the scenery
- Hiking on week days early in the morning LeConte (especially!), Charlie's Bunion, Mt. Cammerer, Clingman’s Dome, Chimney Tops, Andrews Bald, Abrams Falls, and Max Patch. Get your parking pass ahead of time on GSMNP website or buy at Sugarlands Visitor Center!
- Getting some cider at Tennessee Cider Co.
- Fishing and fly fishing especially with a guided tour from Smoky Mountain Angler
- Taking the kids to Dollywood (buy that timesaver pass in October!), Anakeesta, Ober Mountain, and the Gatlinburg Sky Park
- Picnics in Greenbrier Picnic Area or any of the park’s pavilions!
- Fall fun at Kyker Farms to do a hay ride, corn maze, pumpkin patch, and more! (Opens 9/30)
- Horseback riding at Cades Cove Riding Stables
- Get your caramel or candy apple from Ole Smoky Candy Kitchen! It’s not fall without one!
- Drinking a PSL from Coffee & Company and a stroll around The Village in Gatlinburg
- Zip lining through fall foliage at ClimbWorks
- Renting a bike or an e-bike to ride Cades Cove loop!

"Hey babe, take a walk on the wild side..” 🥾 With almost 13 million visitors visiting a year, it always amazes me that few of those get to really experience hiking in the Smokies. This is the real attraction. If you haven’t been on the trails before, start small and work your way up. Go early on a weekday, and immerse yourself in the woods, cliffs, valleys, and coves. Find your happy place somewhere in the half million acres here, and take nothing except your memories and photos. As spring ascends, so does the happy hiker!

“Happiness is not about more. It’s about less.” 🌞 Feeling this quote more than ever as winter winds down and spring begins. 61° degrees is February right now?! As we start planning for the year, thinking about the idea that less is MORE. Less crowds, less traffic, less schedules, less plans, less neighbors, and less stress all to bring you more privacy, more fun, more relaxation, and so much more happiness. No better place than here to get away from it all and let time slow down. Where are you planning to visit this year?

Put it on ice.. 🪄❄️ I can’t remember the last time the river froze over. This winter like all the others in the Smokies is full of wildcards. You never know if you’re going to be prepping for a snow storm or having the best mild weather day, but I do know that it’s an adventure either way. Winter is a special time for special folks. If you love surprises, cozying up, and just plain escaping… this is your season. Let’s all agree to slow down a little bit more in 2023. What’s your new year’s resolution?

Best place in the Smoky Mountains to watch fall roll in? 🍃🍂 From your hot tub. Lovers of both the indoors and outdoors can agree on this spot. Close enough to grab a beverage from inside, but far far away from it all. Who would you bring here?

A change is gonna come. 🍂 The weather is cooling down, leaves are slightly turning, kids are back in school, and fall is on its way. With summer’s departure, we are reminiscing about all the fun we’ve had this summer and making big plans for fall. Are you a summer or fall person?

Cozy corner.. 📚 In school, the cozy corner was always my favorite place to read. Now as an adult I find myself drawn to these little nooks and crannies. Whether it’s to read, relax, or just stare off into space.. give yourself a minute to take in all your favorite summer memories. We only have about 18 (or less!) summers with our kids before they are too cool to vacation with us! 😎 It’s back to school time, and we are wishing teachers, students, and especially parents a happy school year! What are your favorite memories from this summer?

The river is calling!

I was born and raised in Gatlinburg, and I spent my childhood growing up in the Smokies. I moved to San Antonio, Texas in 2015 when I married my husband, Clay. We had our daughter in 2018, and I wanted to have a place that we could call home when we visited. We bought River Rest Cabin in the Pittman Center/Sevierville area and its roughly 2 acres in the fall of 2018, and it was the perfect cure for my homesickness! We renovated the cabin and improved its grounds while embracing its nostalgic magic. There’s nothing like it anywhere on Earth. It is also a special place where I want my daughter (or future children!) to enjoy the great outdoors, explore adventures year-round, encourage her/their love for the National Park, grow within a strong sense of local community, learn about Appalachian culture, and take in all the beauty surrounding my hometown in the Great Smoky Mountains.
