This turtle was covered in barnacles

This doesn’t happen very often.
In the last 16 years I’ve seen less than 5 deaths. The dolphin in our area don’t have natural predators.
Boats, propellers, fishing line,nets ect is most likely the reason for this.

Family shell hunting tour 🐚🐚🐚🐚
They did a great job and found some big species.

Left to right : olive, golden cockle, olivex2, pear whelk(uncommon), golden cockle, giant tun(very uncommon), lightning whelk, eastern murex(uncommon), coal or obsidian, Texas quahog

The sponge crab finds a sponge then trims it and builds a protective barrier. It’s got special claws on its back used to hold the sponge.

One of my favorites because of its uniqueness.

Amber and her group found some great shells on their shell hunting tour. Tide was extremely low a few weeks ago.

Flamed Auger

Capable of growing to 7 inches. I only have 1 of these in my collection and maybe 2 of my clients were as lucky as Terry!
Other shells I’m picturing: Disk Dosinia, 5 keyhole urchin(sand dollar), lettered olive.

Yellow Line Arrow Crab
Yellow lines throughout its body with purple pinchers.
Not a spider crab!
We have seen 2 diffent species in our bay.
The other one is very hard to find because it looks like grass.
Easy to handle and harmless to humans.
We always release what we catch.
We have about 40 diffent species of crabs in the lower laguna madre.

Shovel nose ray( guitarfish)

We witnessed A fisherman reeling in a fish he had never seen before. I assured him and our clients that it’s harmless. It does have a row of spikes down it’s back that can cut you if not handled carefully.

These are some of the Ray’s we have in our bay:
Guitarfish, lesser electric ray, cow nose ray, gulf sting ray, southern sting Ray, manta ray, spotted eagle ray, butterfly rays

Adventure time!!
This locally raised family joined us for an awesome excursion. We did Shell hunting, tubing, dolphin and turtle watch, and even pulled our net and scooped up some sea stars. See what’s out there!

Juveniles hang around the jetties eating algae off the pink granite. The younger turtles are protected along the rocks from boaters, sharks and other predators.

Uncommon things.

Mostly all of our tours include a turtle watch. This tour we saved one!! 🐢

Please call the authorities if you see a stranded turtle, do not attempt to rescue it.

Today we caught 3 of the 4 sea hare species
Left to right : Ragged, Mottled and Spotted sea hare. The Black Sea hare is the 4th one and the most uncommon.
Other names - Spanish Dancer, Ink Fish

We also removed ropes and floats most likely from river

These kids have been out with me several times. Today they got to hold 2 different species of jellyfish. This one pictured is the cannonball jelly.

Had another awesome encounter with an octopus. We found it inside this giant lightning Welch(Texas state shell). 🐙
