Downtown Statesboro is the heart of activity in our beautiful Georgia city. We invite you to experience the quaintness and charm of our unique and historic downtown. You will find popular eateries, retail stores and activities all within walking distance of each other. The Averitt Center for the Arts is the anchor of downtown, situated across the street from our historic Courthouse. Downtown Statesboro is connected to the Georgia Southern University campus by way of the McTell Trail - a beautiful one mile greenway. Main Street Statesboro works under a simple yet effective four point approach, including a focus on design, organization, promotion and economic restructuring. • Design - Enhancing the physical appearance of the commercial district by rehabilitating historic buildings, encouraging supportive new construction, developing sensitive design management systems, and long-term planning. • Organization - Building consensus and cooperation among the many groups and individuals who have a role in the revitalization process. • Promotion - Marketing the traditional commercial district's assets to customers, potential investors, new businesses, local citizens and visitors. • Economic Restructuring - Strengthening the district's existing economic base while finding ways to expand it to meet new opportunities and challenges from outlying developments. Mission The Main Street Program and Downtown Statesboro Development Authority work as two organizations in one. Our organization is committed to the economic development, historic preservation, and beautification of Statesboro's downtown area. Founded The Downtown Statesboro Development Authority was created in 1981, and Statesboro was declared a Main Street City on April 15, 1991.
