The 4th of July is quickly approaching, and volunteer bird stewards are needed to help protect the coast's beach-nesting birds. We can expect large crowds on the beaches over the long holiday weekend. The loud noises and bright lights from fireworks can cause colonies to abandon their nesting sites. Volunteer stewards help ensure beachgoers do not enter protected nesting areas and educate visitors about the remarkable species that rely on Gulf Coast beaches for survival. Interested individuals should enjoy spending time on the beach and interacting with the public. This is a family-friendly volunteer opportunity with the flexibility to choose your day, time, and location. If you’d like to learn more about what you can do to help protect the Least Terns, this presentation is for you! Please register in advance for the meeting held on Thursday, June 20: https://audubon.zoom.us/meeting/register/tJUtfu2opz8tH9JaCpaO5QLzu7tRXzBt69XB?_x_zm_rtaid=7jce2sk6R4O3YI7QyCpNzA.1717858271260.6147db4231facb9e2d030eb344c2ed65&_x_zm_rhtaid=200 #/registration.

🎣 New to fishing or looking to get back into it? Then mark your calendars for next weekend because Louisiana’s annual Free Fishing Weekend is back on June 8th and 9th, courtesy of LDWF!

Experience the joy of fishing without the need for a fishing license! It's the perfect opportunity to bond with loved ones, create unforgettable memories in the great outdoors, and develop a new hobby!

But remember, while the license is waived, all fishing regulations still apply.

As part of the fun, LDWF has stocked adult-sized catfish in 17 ponds across the state through the Get Out and Fish! Program. No boat? No worries! Head to our website (https://buff.ly/3G7uU1l) or LDWF Get Out & Fish for pond locations, stocking dates, and expert tips on reeling in your catch of the day.

And if you're planning to catch some bigger fish, don't forget about the Recreational Offshore Landing Permit (ROLP) for certain species. But during Free Fishing Weekend, simply select the "Free Fishing Weekend" option when registering.

Keep in mind, outside of Free Fishing Weekend, anglers 18 and older need a Louisiana fishing license.

Celebrate by spotting feathered travelers along the Creole Nature Trail All-American Road! 🪶

The Creole Nature Trail is a birder’s paradise, with over 400 species of birds calling it home.

Birds can be seen in Southwest Louisiana all year, but fall, winter, and spring are the best seasons for birding here due to the large number of species migrating.

Located on both the Central and Mississippi flyways, Southwest Louisiana’s combination of beaches, coastal and fresh marshes, remnant prairie, bottomland forest corridors, and coastal oak maritime forests (cheniers) make us a birder’s paradise.
