The Illinois Caverns in Waterloo is a GEM for outdoor lovers!
Here is everything you need to know before you go:
1) You must bring 3 sources of battery powered light per person.
2) Rubber boots are highly encouraged, because you will go through water. You must have closed toed shoes or will you not be able to visit the caves.
3) You need a minimum of 4 people in your party to go in the cave and 1 adult for every 5 minors.
4) Hard hats are a must! Bicycle helmets count. If you donβt have one IDNR has some available on site in their office on a first come first serve basis.
5) There are changing rooms so bring a change of clothes because you may get wet.
6) Meet at the office on site which is open Friday-Sunday from 9 AM - 4 PM and fill out a waiver with IDNR.
7) The temperature in the cave stays at 58 degrees year-round.
8) You are allowed to and encouraged to bring food and drinks with you in the cave.
9) The cave is natural and therefore it is not advised for anyone with mobility issues or injuries to enter the cave.
10) Stay on trails. The area around the cave is protected Prairie.
11) The cave was closed for years due to White Nose Syndrome, a disease that was killing bats. Humans cannot contract White Nose Syndrome therefore posing no threat or health concern for humans.
12) Have fun and only go as far as you are comfortable with! However far you go in is how far you have to come out!

2023 COFFEE BRACKET WINNER
Again, we congratulate The Coffee Pot out of Freeburg on their win of our most recent Bracket Challenge!
After a month-long bracket, The Coffee Pot came out victorious in the finals versus Stagecoach Coffee out of Paris.
